Western civilization no longer has any validity.

This has been a pattern through both Trump terms: non-Republican criticism doesn't count because it's assumed, and because his stranglehold over the GOP is so tight. But this definition of newsworthiness could almost make you think Trump is popular, which he isn't.

Oh, I agree that this case is vitally important, I guess that something about 24hr media encourages the newsworthiness of gaming-events

The future of Media AI isn't text generation. It's high-level curation.

We need to engineer "Newsworthiness" directly into the code. Here is how we can digitize Editorial Intuition:

As a tech journalist and editor, I have spent my entire career solving one problem: the nature of news.

Additional unpopular take: Fact checkers and copy desks matter. So do editors, corrections policies, mentoring, and the teamwork of weighing newsworthiness, editorial strategy…

Not that I could afford it, but I’d never rely on 10 newsletters for news
i know that this is an unpopular take, but everyone starting their own newsletter as a revenue stream is not a sustainable model for writing and reporting or for people who love and want to pay for media.
A lot of people cannot just start a paid newsletter or become freelancers to sustain their careers. The sports, metro, and international desks did work that requires *team* resources, like legal checks, documents, access to archives, and long-term beat experience.

Given we're not short of news about the git, this sets an exceptionally low bar for newsworthiness. Maybe his PR is (belatedly) trying to throw us off the scent.

Newsworthiness aside, expect some MPs to benefit.

Privacy concerns could elevate certain MPs’ newsworthiness.

That she "wasn't impressed enough to think there was a story there" does make her a suitable companion for Bari Weiss, with their similar noses for newsworthiness. Hopefully neither one of them ends up running a major news enterprise! That would be a disaster.

Decency, integrity , honesty, or basic honest-to-goodness truth apparently don't make for juicy enough headlines or newsworthiness . What awful times we live in 🫣😢😱

I'm glad people are reporting on the complicity of those with power and I understand novel info is part of newsworthiness

but sometimes it is very frustrating how MANY times the same people need to be implicated in order for something to break through even a little and how SHORT that window is

A group can be silent when they disagree with other groups and also ally with them to achieve shared objectives.

People can move between groups to find the one they work best with. Freedom of association is complex but achievable.

Don't play into the liberal ideal of "newsworthiness" as a goal.

Congressional gridlock could boost MPs’ newsworthiness this week.

I mean it’s mostly a content aggregator at this point but it’s an odd choice
It has increased in its reliability/general newsworthiness over time

Last night (after that week of insanity in Trump Land) 60 minutes ran 3 old puff pieces about actors, only one of whom was nominated for an Oscar (which was the only plausible tie to newsworthiness). It’s basically shut down as a news org.

They’ve got a “drip-drip-drip” schedule to keep these “earth-shattering defection” stories in the headlines and to elevate DEform’s screen time newsworthiness. It’s a tactic, a ploy ~ as hollow and as unhelpful to the UK as a chocolate teapot. #EnoughIsEnough #ReformIsProFascism
After Nigel Farage hinted that more leading influential Conservatives would defect to Reform UK, Suella Braverman has just joined the Party – so maybe she knows who Nigel meant

I had an exchange with a journalist about this recently. The profession as a whole appears to have no sense of obligation that their work be in "the public interest" or similar. Considered a 'nice to have' but fully optional as compared to "newsworthiness" and never something that creates a duty.

They asked the same question in September 2025 and the net favorable dropped by 8 pts. I think that’s important to know from a social science perspective, newsworthiness at this time, yeah debatable
