e-num.

While I'm doing pronounciation hot takes, it's pronounced "gif" as in "gift", not "jiff", "char" not "care", "vye" not "vee-eye", and "ed", not "erectile dysfunction". No, I don't care if Ken Thompson or anyone else thought otherwise.

Yes it is, but it doesn't sound like Finnish at all, but there's some similarities in grammar and pronounciation 👀

I come from an uneducated family and a time with no online pronounciation guides. Once, in a gasthaus in Germany, I amused my other journalist friends by saying “apropos” as it is spelled.

Honestly same 🤝. A fun fact about Aegir: The pronounciation of it sounds exactly like "Eier" in German. Eier of course means 'eggs' BUT it is also very much the most common slang word for testicles. So yeah, to my ears the guy regularly happily declares that he is Ferdinand of Balls 😔✌️

Fascinated to know what ridiculous way he's forcing his pronounciation to make it sound in any way dirty or rude?

There is a study from a couple of years ago showung that ca 30% L1 Swedish speakers who started learning French as adolecsents or older when moving to Franc, actually are taken to be French L1 speakers by actual French L1 speakers. So not even pronounciation is impossible, if one would like too.

The planet Kolybel is named after the Kolybel Empire which conqured it (except Almasa, still took slaves) and installed the councils 120y after Project Zeroes. Koly (Holy pronounciation), and bel (home). Named planet after themselves for hegemony. Previous names erased.

Welcome to a new month of Monthly Worldbuilders! Here's your first #FebruaryWorldbuilders prompt. This week I'm asking about the physical world you are writing about/creating/whatever you're doing. Does your world have a name? Is it a planet? A country? Something else?

The homonyms in Swedish are almost a meme at this point cause one word usually means 4 things in Swedish and it only changes with slight pronounciation changes but the word is kept the same and I think its neat Japanese does the same.

Genuinely hate when people demand you to pronounce loan words like the original language as if the adapted pronounciation is "disrespectful"

Dear Americans. WHY IS IT SO HARD TO STUDY UP THE PRONOUNCIATION OF EXPECTED NAMES IN ADVANCE?!?!!!! Especially in such an international year? Embarrassing. #Oscars

Honestly, the article switches between German and English pronounciation every second sentence to make it fit their narrative.
E.g. "Sozi" really is never spoken with a short 'o' sound, but a very long one, etc.
It seems very much made up and reverse-engineered.

cringing at my pronounciation of "interviewing" as "inner-viewing", like Joe Rogan can see inside your soul

Whatever pronounciation works for you.
She's named after the praline chocolate.
"Praliné" is just decorative stylization of her name, made to look fancy.
Properly read, her name "Praline" would be "Pra-leen" when read in French.
But "Praline", read in English as "Prae-leene" or "Pra-line" works too.

Emilia Clarke has admitted feeling "really pissed" at the expert who developed Game of Thrones' fictional languages, after reading that he thought her Dothraki pronounciation "sucked." https://bit.ly/4qNBhPe

I loved todays episode of Word Unravelled. Mostly because I for once knew more than @jesszafarris.bsky.social and @robwords.bsky.social
Felt good, not gonna lie.

I am considering starting a flame war against Rob on his pronounciation of troll.
