Visited Wales and Caerleon today. Didn't even know about this fascinating Roman site before yesterday

Basing myself out of Verona for a few days. Christmas Eve and Day were a quiet affair, which made it a dream destination for walking.
Porta Nuova. Stone defence gate built in early sixteenth century forming a southern entrance to the city. Piazza. Rows of coloured buildings with cafe and restaurants. Arena di Verona. The third largest and best preserved Roman amphitheater in Italy.

Oh crikey. Ben Hur which my father took us to see in Cinerama. Totally traumatised me, the galley slaves drowning chained to their oars, the leper colony & the chariot race with its bloody ending. Not how I was hoping 2026 would go.
