Excellent post from Mary. As @counsellc.bsky.social says, "You cannot Rosenshine your way into a curriculum, and nor can you Rosenshine your way into mediating content in subject sensitive ways."
I don’t think as much attention has been paid to implementing the curriculum as it has to the pedagogy to teach it.

It’s a bit like going into a restaurant where all the effort has gone in to making it look amazing...

Seriously, pretty much every time an ECT asks me for support with a class that has a high % of pupils with SEND, I observe & my feedback is: clarity of expectations & instructions (at ALL times), and then Rosenshine.

I think we should just set @rlrossi64.bsky.social a retirement project of writing a series of workshops exploring what Quality First Teaching is & how it is good for all but vital for some, based on Cog Sci & Rosenshine. That’s strengthening SEND training.
The National Association of School-Based Teacher Trainers is to investigate how to strengthen SEND training for teacher trainees – as two-thirds of providers say they feel new teachers are not prepared to deal with rising complex needs

thank you for posting. So many classrooms and schools would be better if they focused on Rosenshine on knowledge and less on Rosenshine's principles. So many issues around misapplication of the latter.

It is wild that this research uses the phrase "direct instruction" to include strategies involving scaffolded individual student practice... but not explain the expansive definition of direct instruction to participants, asking them to answer the question on right using a Likert scale.

Just heard from a colleague who inquired about a job advert at a school and was told by a senior leader that they might find it difficult because their previous school (this leader has never worked at) 'is dedicated to discovery learning' and 'here we use Rosenshine'. Getting weirder by the day.

Berechtigte Nachfrage, nein es geht darum, grundsätzlich keine Sicherung nach längeren Erarbeitungen zu haben, und das steht ja sehr im Widerspruch zu Rosenshine zB
