Matteotti gave name to committees supporting socialdemocratic #refugees fleing Germany after Hitler took power in 1933.
In Denmark most refugees from Germany were Jewish, then came socialdemocratic refugees and as third largest communist refugees supported by Red Aid.
All in all not big numbers.
PSU leader, Giacomo Matteotti, is Mussolini's main opponent after the fascist leader comes to power in October 1922. On 30 May 1924, Matteotti makes a powerful speech in Parliament denouncing fraud & intimidation in the previous month's elections. On 10 June 1924, he is kidnapped by fascists >> 5

Really? I am talking about 1939-41 to June 1941. Soviet Union participated in Nazi conquests. Directly supported the invasion of Poland, indirectly of Norway. Shared spoils by getting Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, a piece of Romania and invaded (partially socialdemocratic BTW) Finland.

The oldest active #PoliticalParty in the world, the #DemocraticParty of the US, was formed #ThisDayInHistory in 1828 as a vehicle for #genocidal #populist #AndrewJackson. It has been #conservative for most of its existence, though occasionally #liberal and/or #SocialDemocratic.

Its a debate that isnt specific for the US, here in germany the age has already stepwise lifted up to 67 for most people and now conservatives, with a weak and submissive socialdemocratic party at their side debate 70!. Work and than die quickly.

We're going to be seeing this more and more, and across the entire developed world, and my (faint and naïve, yes I know, I've been a socialdemocratic party member for 20+ years after all :-D ) hope is it puts housing policy into focus as THE arena for redistribution and economic fairness from hereon

Climate news from Norway. Labour had a unique opportunity of building a strong, new green socialdemocratic alliance with smaller parties, together majority after the election. Many shared visions. Tonight the budget negotiations imploded. Labour still find it more safe to run Norway as a petrostate.

All of which leads me to question: what voter groups are these socialdemocratic parties targeting? 🤔 We know that in Europe, migration issues are less of an issue among culturally diverse voters. But they are among white voters.

Would like to know how migrant voters voted in Copenhagen, etc.

Western germany and germany today had several socialdemocratic chancellors , France had socialist presidents, Britain had Labor primeministers, others have the same story. The inability of americans to see these differences makes it so easy for republicans to attack each road to a fairer system. 👇

Most people reject socialism in the meaning of the real existing socialism of the former soviet union and other eastblock states, or cuba's system. But in western europe socialism has already for decades been integrated in the normal political spectrum, as part of socialdemocratic politics. 👇

In many cases - mostly the smaller parties - the actual % of votes is quite within the range of the predicted values. Yet, the model gets wrong the top party, over estimates the Socialdemocratic party and under estimates Enhedslisten. These are all - well-known - specific traits of Copenhagen,

Interesting thought how in Denmark the "political pitfalls" of the Socialdemocratic road is still mostly perceived as "good political craftmanship", a "road to political success" etc. in spite of quite brillant research on political radicalism and data that indicates otherwise.

How come?

We here in Finland have Afghan emigre woman mp and leading figure of Socialdemocratic party. If elections go 2027 as gallups now show. She will get ministerial position. I support her.

@waldo.net but is this not a lesson for the socialdemocratic party and not the democrats?

As funny as it smells: thats what they did in Germany.

Under Merkel the german conservatives forgot, that they ever have been anti-POC and implemented mild socialdemocratic policies.
And get elected to govern 3 times in a row.

Making public transit free is so much not an obviously good governance from the toolbox of leftist solutions that not even socialdemocratic or communist countries have done it, only hypercapitalist tax haven Luxembourg (and Malta, i am learning)

You should check the Italian left
Since the communist party folded down in 1991, the left has been cyclic: it slides in a "normal" european left, untill an old tankie yells "we are becaming *gasp* socialdemocratic!"
The party had a turmoil, swing back to this left, took a decade to get back, in loop
