So like the idea of non-nuclear proliferation is definitely dead right?

Like, if you're a small to medium-sized nation, this seems like the only safeguard against external threats

No evidence, but I suspect what's going on here is the Chavista functionaries in government struck some kind of deal where they remain in power, Venezuela opens up more to the United States, and Maduro is the sacrificial lamb both to show American power and to rally Venezuelans around the state.

Cuba is obviously low-hanging fruit, but if they actually attempt to invade Mexico or Colombia, they're unbelievably fucked

So there was a referendum in Ecuador this year - one of the questions was about allowing foreign military bases in Ecuadorian soil.

I'm so glad it failed, because the US would absolutely use us as a staging ground for an invasion

For other countries it is unfortunately seriously worth thinking about how in two successive cases in a row the United States seemingly has used negotiations as a feint from the very beginning while preparing devastating and senseless bombing campaigns which they execute no matter what

Okay here’s an actual take: the fascist international is at war with the very concept of legitimacy.
Their messaging is so fucking incoherent. Maduro was an illegitimate leader who lost in 2024, which is why we're replacing him with his VP instead of the person who won in 2024. We did this to stop fentanyl, which is why he's indicted for cocaine.

We're also occupying Venezuela via Zoom call.

babe wake up, they're doing insider trading on war crimes
“What appears to be a newly created account appeared to invest $30,000 Friday in Maduro's exit. After Maduro went into custody Saturday morning, that same investor netted $436,759.61.”
Someone made $400K by predicting Maduro's capture. Here's what happened
The winnings come as the rules governing prediction markets are still evolving.
