I arrived in Berkeley Springs a few of hours early today figuring it would be easier to find a place to park that way, so I had time tour the Ice House Artist Co-Op Gallery, and discovered Joan Danziger's works inspired by Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower. Beautiful — but out of my price range.
A wall card reads: Joan Danziger Danziger's beetles inhabit a space between myth and survival. In Parable of the Sower, Octavia E. Butler imagines a world unraveling under the weight of ecological collapse and human greed, yet she places faith in seeds-small vessels of possibility that endure beyond catastrophe. The beetle, like the seed, is a carrier of persistence. Its ancient body has remained almost unchanged since prehistoric times, an emblem of endurance across eras of upheaval. Danziger's luminous forms conjure beetles not as mere insects but as guardians of transformation-beings that blur the line between earthly and otherworldly. In their armored resilience we glimpse a parallel to Butler's vision: survival not through dominance, but through adaptation, patience, and quiet strength. The beetle becomes both relic and prophet, echoing the Earthseed belief that "God is Change." "My sculptures combine an interplay of the animal strength and beauty of nature with the human spirit. The use of animal imagery as metaphorical or psychological subject has great potency for me, it gives my sculptures a life of their own and creates a magical world. "The wonderful thing about the fantastic is that the fantastic does not exist: everything is real" Danziger resides in Washington, D.C. and received a B.F.A. from Cornell University and also studied at the Art Students League in New York City and the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, Italy. A giant glazed blue beetle. A beetle so dark a green it's almost black, the wings a webbed metal with bits of embedded blue glass.

Tonight's horror movie is "Black Mountain Side." I've probably watched it 6-7 times now.

It's an homage to John Carpenter's "The Thing," but with a pagan lean to it. There's a very spooky deity or spirit in the mix.

This is a little far afield at this point. Maybe when they start snatching the animal costumers off the street this would be sensible, however that is not the case and ICE is not in fact everywhere and never will be.
