Anyway, I'm just looking through my photo files and here are some stunning Proteaceae from S Western Australia, a place of extraordinary plant diversity. 1) Banksia caleyi; 2) Hakea victoria; 3) Banksia coccinea.
Banksia inflorescence looking a bit like a big red pine cone. It's hanging down under the plant, just above some white sand. The leaves are long and toothed. I do remember having to suffer one or two ant bites to get this photo. The peerless foliage of Hakea victoria. The flowers are small and white and very meh, but the leaves are amazing. They're huge, like cabbage leaves, but are all the colours of the sunrise (yellow and orange plus green, which is generally not a normal sky colour, so maybe I should have thought this through before typing). I love this species and it was such a delight to see it growing in the wild in Fitzgerald River National Park. Stunning inflorescence of Banksia coccinea. The flowers are arranged in such a way that it lookes like as though it has red and white stripes. The birds love this species.
