i just need people to know it's not hypocrisy when Devout Christian Mike Johnson cuts off SNAP benefits. it's not a lack of "christian charity" to make kids starve; it's because the christian right wants to control who gets food, through churches, so they can deny queers and sluts at will

Yup. My church had a food pantry that kind of had tiers of service:

1- Christian, church goer - Gets food and prayer
2- Non-Christian - Start coming to church if you want more food
3- Homeless - If you want food, you need to work church property
4- LGBTQ+ - HAHA No. Stop "sinning" & come to church

This thread makes a point I find myself coming to often these days.

It's hard to make this point in a way that doesn't sound like a threat, but it's just a fact that for centuries the wealthy in America worried that the mob would come get them and did all they could to avoid that fate.

There's a reason why Carnegie and the Rockefellers poured money into institutions. Gutting institutions and making it harder for the masses to survive is a...choice.

Not only is it going to be a hunger crisis, it's going to be a farm crisis. All those gallons of milk bought from dairy farmers, all the produce, all the on sale ground beef and packs of chicken that are paid for by SNAP are subsidies to farmers who don't qualify for commodities subsidies.

That's actually not what eliminated means.

Your larger point still stands, though it was lack of insurance suppressing vaccination in the very young that drove things until 8-10 years ago.

Sadly these stats are much harder to find now. Lack of insurance is still a huge factor though.

Black and Brown people. PLEASE, PLEASE for the love of us all do not allow yourself to be interviewed if SNAP benefits don't come on November 1. Make the white folks do the interviews. They love getting Black folks to do these interviews so that people think we are the only ones hurt.

Okay so obviously it's Florida, and the politics of this are VILE and these people are NOT TO BE TRUSTED.

But I don't *hate* the idea itself, on the face of it. Especially as a mom of a soon to be grad student, an undergrad, and a dual enrollment HS student.

If you google "Dollar Tree Meals" lots of folks have put together easy, feeds four, shelf stable meals that fit in a gallon plastic zip bag.

Those are great to leave in the little pantries.

He was elected president, and as president, his highest duty is to ensure that the laws of the land be executed faithfully. His job is to uphold the constitutional order, not tear it down and remake it in his image.

There is a not very good fantasy series I read as a kid by an author who was revealed to be a terrible person well after I read the books, but there's a line in it that goes something like "adding to the palace gives weak kings something to do".

Anyway the planned ballroom looks ugly.
