i’m mostly unbothered about genre names in that i think context clues basically always work, until i try to find a single game using steam tags and then i become Classification Stalin

Pretty sure that when you have giant frogs everywhere, God is very disappointed in how you are treating immigrants.

I mean we've always been in the hide your neighbors stage, it's just most people weren't willing to. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Basically everyone should watch The Breakfast Club and take notes on how its dialogue progresses.

there's a sequence in POSSESSION where isabel adjani does barre instruction with a young dancer and it is unbelievably goddamn frightening.

So true. The Shriekers Skittles they have around this time of the year are a highlight.

I've been enjoying Hades II because the systems still really work for me (even if there are a few too many currencies this time around that cut into the comparative seamlessness of the first). However! I see everything said here in the game when I play it.

not often I hear/read something about The Horrors that is both illuminating and also actually convincing that there is very reasonable hope about what we're facing, really recommend listening to Mike's essay (and listening to Never Post every other week it's great)

Hayley Williams performed True Believer positioned at the back of the stage with most of her black musicians at the front. I’ll post the lyrics below

Oh, I get it. It's called Castlevania because it's a metroidvania set in a castle!

Frog and... maybe more a toad, but look I support inclusivity
Sprig Plantar from Amphibia; he is a pink tree frog wearing a jacket and a scouting hat with goggles. He is jumping and smiling, showing his green tongue. Baal from Bayonetta (specifically 2); a massive purple toad emerging from a glowing red portal made of black hair. On her head is a horned crown and skull baubles hang from her.

Eternal Strands has maybe the biggest gulf between how much I love it and how much people have played it in 2025, REALLY cool physics-heavy exploration game with a nice kernel of Shadow Of The Colossus nestled in its heart. Good writing, too!

Coming in hot with a take that critics are calling "pedantic," "exhausting," and "overwrought."

I do think I'm right about this though lol

really strong piece that speaks to a lot of issues I have with Hades but do not want to deal with its fans enough to say. concise, robust, researched writing from Grace as ever.

I don't think a sequel was ever going to win me over, but the fact that they kind of doubled down on safe interpretations really has made me bitter about it.
bloomedwings.bsky.social
I'll go a step further and say the first one got too many free passes. While I'm not as harsh on the cliff notes god portrayals as Grace is, everything post-first credits was a saccharine bow that felt antithetical to itself and Supergiant's work.

Thank you Grace for having courage. This game is getting to many free passes.

Hades II demeans the mystery and grandeur of myth through its shallow writing and unserious tone, writes @gracemachine.bsky.social. www.endlessmode.com/video-games/...
