Any unsolicited email that includes something like "I’m part of a private readers community about 2000+ active readers and social media reviewers. We’re not some forced review for hire thing. We just spotlight books that actually deserve to be seen, and yours hit that nerve." is a scam. I'm sorry.

The idea that we are somehow obligated to engage in the PVP-based social media mode out of some kind of moral principle is bullshit.

If someone blocks you, directly or via blocklist, it is because they don't want to interact with you! You are not owed an audience, you are not owed the ability to interact with someone, and social affinity sorting and group boundary-setting is a fundamental human action.

Feel like some reporter should ask, "sir, how is it that you believe you can competently do your job when you repeatedly fail to hear, read, or see major political events that everybody's least media literate facebook uncle knows about?"

Your art isn’t bad just because it’s not selling right now.

We’re in a recession and people don’t know when they’re gonna eat next, nobody can afford fun things because the economy is crumbling. It’s going to be hard a while.

I love how the version of "abuses" we would do is all like "holy shit they'll give everyone rights."
Johnson: "If they had no filibuster, they would pack the SCOTUS. You'd go from 9 to 17 or however many liberals they could pack. You would make DC & Puerto Rico into states, which would give 4 additional Democrat senators & make us a permanent minority. You'd see massive restrictions of 2A rights"

I know that's an extra hard concept for people who scrape the entire internet for AI training datasets :( but maybe the problem is the shit sandwich and not the people who refuse to buy it :( :( :(

Like, it's all the same problem. You're selling a shit sandwich and no one wants to buy it, and you're mad that Bluesky doesn't mandate shit sandwich subsidies. Just stop obsessing over who blocks you like a normal person who is capable of respecting boundaries!
I truly think there is a certain amount of privilege in thinking everyone should have & be willing to spend the energy to deal w/ assholes, when we could instead be spending it enjoying our time

I'm too chronically ill to deal w/ bullshit that is easily avoidable when there is so much I can't avoid
I know some ppl struggle to understand this, but none of us owe our time, attention, & emotional bandwidth to anyone. Taking steps to make a platform enjoyable, curating our online experience, IS the healthy thing to do.

Some of us have to deal with assholes in person every day that we can't avoid.
Blocking hatemongers is one thing but this trend of using mass block lists to avoid hearing from people who might or might not hold points of view you expect to disagree with is unhealthy imo and hurts the platform.

Bluesky was better off with folks like Margaret Mitchell and Giada Pistilli on it.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Your regular reminder that the number of trans kids using puberty blockers to delay puberty is tiny, and the vast majority of prescriptions for the medication in children and adolescents are used to delay precocious puberty in cisgender kids.
Because it’s cis kids.
The NHS will quite casually give cis kids whatever treatment they need, even PBs👇
No trials. No concerns about side effects. No moral panic.

It's usually a good idea to introduce some latency in your detection (such as a variable time delay in action or waiting until you're confident you've found all the accounts and nuking them all at once) so you don't give them hints about what signals you're detecting on.

Again, this precise use case is why these systems exist-to proliferate people’s racist (transphobic, misogynistic…) imaginary at scale. This should not be seen as a “misuse” but rather the product being used exactly as intended.

This whole thread.

“Oh no, someone might eat food!”

Good. That’s good.

“They might buy something they like.”

Cool.

“They might get a treat!”

Also cool.
There's something deeply disturbing about EBT/SNAP hate to me. Like just truly bone blanching shit.

Hi! I'm re-launching my Patreon since I lost my job due to health reasons that aren't covered by long term disability because of very frustrating technicalities.
This time, I'm adding a chance to win a commission by me each month for patrons giving 10 CAD+ each month!

I am once again asking for opt-out based consent to be fucking outlawed
What the French-fried fuckity fuck?

I emphatically did not opt IN to this and now I have to log in and opt OUT?

When you’ve already done a thing I not only disapprove of, but that also makes literally no sense?

You can’t turn my old paper into an analogy. That’s not how papers or analogies work

This is vile. You cannot distill years of research, experience, collaboration into an ‘analogy.’ (Or, in comments, a ‘comic.’)

Starving children is never okay. And as someone who has belonged to that social strata, yeah, there's fraud, because the system has been set up to make it impossible to be a part of society without it. Stinking, blood-covered teens with rotting teeth are not welcome very frequently.

The average US taxpayer spends $36 a year on SNAP

You know what they spend on corporate subsidies? $670

Poor and disabled people who need food are not the problem

If you’re angry about “your money” feeding people but not angry it’s giving tax cuts to the wealthy?

You’re doing their dirty work.
