a foundational belief of the modern right is that there is no such thing as organic disagreement with their policies, it’s all directed from the top down

This is the response I received from ICE when I inquired about the 13-year-old they abducted from Everett, Mass. on Friday:
Good afternoon, Marisa.
Please see the below from DHS on the 13-year-old alien.
Please feel free to direct any questions to them.
Respectfully,
James

I have been thinking about this a LOT lately, and have many things to say about it. Maybe I'll write a complete essay. But for now, this video is well, well worth your time.

The funny thing is that I watched this video before I watched the video in the OP since it came up in my recommendations. I’ve watched both and they’re great. And yikes, those comments. I only see comments like that on YouTube now since I’m not on Xitter anymore and I’ve never been on Facebook.

Holy crap. This is terrible.

The article states it's "not related to the current U.S. government shutdown". But of course it is: they are both connected by the GOP destroying everything good about this country from the top down and the bottom up.

It would make a great reference list for American history students. When I was in college in the ‘80s I knew about Dunning and what a terrible historian and he was but most of the other names are unfamiliar. They could check the bibliography and make sure none of these authors are quoted favorably.

Thanks! I couldn’t help but notice Dunning’s name on that list. I’m happy to learn that even back then historians were calling Dunning out.

Not only is he calling out chumps but you can literally trace many of the threads in our modern reactionary moment to many of the currents shot through in the writing by the authors listed here. It’s also a heads up.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages
Business Insider headline reads: UPS is telling customers that their packages coming to the US are marked for destruction.

The mainstream media loves making it seam like dysfunction in Washington is coming from both parties.

Hello?

Much of the GOP no longer accepts the rule of law, or the norms of democracy, or the legitimacy of the opposing party.

Enough of the false equivalence.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.
