That’s the kind of kneejerk dismissive advice that makes me violent. Telling people to just grow their own food is tantamount to telling them to eat cake.
On Threads, the usual suspects are telling ppl about to lose SNAP benefits to just start a garden. As a gardener, I had to laugh. You need at LEAST an acre of land to feed a family of 4. Start-up costs are enormous. But yes, subsistence farming on the balcony of your rental apartment is the answer

A district court would preliminarily enjoin the razing but SCOTUS would stay the PI and allow the razing to occur while litigation concerning the razing’s legality proceeds.
As a matter of current law, could the president just…knock down the entire White House? Just raze the whole thing to the ground?

"normies do not care about this thing and so it is no use raising a stink" is imho just an excuse for not doing politics, which is the job of making normies care about something

There are no circumstances where human beings should be without food. There are no qualifications that make someone undeserving of access to food. If you are a human being, you should get food. I don’t care about ability, job status, legal status, or anything else. If people are hungry, feed them.

“oh so you think the east wing being demolished is worse than-“ it’s a synecdoche, man. a visual metaphor. there’s a reason the aliens in Independence Day don’t aim a huge laser at SNAP benefits

Folks look at you like you're crazy when you say we're in the midst of the worst, most unprecedented Article I constitutional crisis in American history, & well, then, since you put it that way:
In the midst of a government shutdown, and in the face of fundamental challenges to the rule of law and to democratic accountability, the House of Representatives--the people's house, the heart of our democratic republic--hasn't cast a vote since Sep. 19. An extraordinary failure of responsibility.

UPDATE: More donors funding the demolition of the East Wing for Trump's $250M ballroom have been identified

The White House is asking people not to share pictures of the East Wing because it’s even worse today.

and if you think he's going to willingly leave his newly renovated manse Jan 20 2029....
This demolition is a statement of *ownership*
the president has destroyed the east wing of the white house without so much as a word of input from anyone else to build a royal ballroom paid for with bribes
NEW: After The Washington Post reported Monday on the demolition of the "East Wing facade," a new picture obtained by Law Dork that was taken on Tuesday shows that a substantial portion of the entirety of the East Wing has been demolished.

A fun byproduct of unitary executive theory—if the president controls everyone under him, he can demand they transfer hundreds of millions in tax dollars into his bank account
Breaking News: President Trump wants $230 million from the Justice Department for investigating him, people familiar with the matter say. Any settlement might ultimately be approved by senior department officials who defended him or those in his orbit. nyti.ms/4hmIi5X

“Buck naked” is unclothed.

“Butt naked” is unclothed and up to something.
Not to be THAT dictionary, but…

It’s ‘per se,’ not ‘per say.’
It’s ‘dog-eat-dog world,’ not ‘doggy-dog world.’
It’s ‘hunger pangs,’ not ‘hunger pains.’
It’s ‘one and the same,’ not ‘one in the same.’
It's 'buck naked,' not 'butt naked.'

Just had a version of this earlier, and do people not realize that it's rude to introduce yourself to a stranger by telling them what they should or shouldn't talk about?
Begging people on here to please look into someone's background and work before replying to chide them about something else you want them to say. I can't tell you how many times a reply asks "why aren't you talking about THIS?" and it's something I've been shouting about for a decade or more.

the truth is that this isn't a theocracy and jesus isn't my fucking king
Chip Roy: "The truth is the marxist, radicals, and Islamists the Democratic Party promoted this weekend, they cannot handle the truth. The truth is that there is a king and that king is Jesus. And the president has been willing to say it, & Charlie Kirk was willing to say it & he got killed for it."

America As No-Longer-Democracy and Not-Yet-Dictatorship

Where does the country stand after the largest day of protest in U.S. history? Putting “No Kings” in perspective.

A mere 19 months ago, Trump’s net worth was $2.6B, and he owed hundreds of millions in civil penalties. Today, Trump is worth $7.1B, and most of the civil penalties have been tossed out.

Presidential politics is by far the most lucrative business venture of Trump’s career. trib.al/XjAdogE

For Tolkien fans, a timely passage for No Kings Eve, from WH Auden’s review of Lord of the Rings.
Wrote this a year ago, about a month after Kristofferson's death. It holds up, I think. (For sure, his ironic anthem "The Law Is for Protection of the People" will be in my personal No Kings playlist today.)
