Even the grittiest blue collar city has a spark of magic under the surface. In Baltimore, you might find that magic around any street corner or darkened alley - if you know how to look.

A great discussion about how and why to match music with your book, including legalities and benefits/drawbacks. As someone who always does a soundtrack/playlist for my work, it was great to see this covered so thoroughly in a short video!

Sometimes it feels like I get the same writing questions all the time, so it's nice to get a curve ball. This was one of those, and it involves the use of music in books. Interesting stuff, and good to continue my AMA writing series on the new channel. youtu.be/Fl4WvUZzeps

Definitely! When you calculate cost/savings don't forget to think about mailers, driving to/from post office if you have to, things like that. And if you're only shipping books, media mail is a lot cheaper.
I ran a small biz before this, so I knew what I was signing up for :D
christianek.bsky.social
I sell through Ko-fi and it's basically like running a small mail order biz: I need to keep track of my stock and how much it costs to ship because I mail them out myself. I recommend a PO box as a return address for safety's sake. I can go deeper into detail if you want!

I know there are many people, especially in the UK and EU, who don't know how the US rewarded Black veterans. They fought, risks their lives...and Black people got this as a reward.

You weren't taught about it. Most people in the US weren't.

There's a reason I don't wear a goddamn poppy.

I’m teaching abt Red Summer today, when white vigilantes & National Guardsmen across the country harassed, detained, assaulted, & murdered Black Americans as part of a backlash against Black military service in WWI.

Telling the truth about harm caused by people who refuse to discuss it on any level is not: brutal, savage, aggressive, unprofessional, or gross.

Imagine if we all started speaking plainly, standing together, and rejecting darvo, how fast things would change.

Remember your choices are yours.

I want to shove some indie fantasy up these redditors’ noses
kilagreene.bsky.social
People on r/fantasy keep asking “Why is modern fantasy all so UNORIGINAL and BORING,” and I immediately assume they must not be reading, say, N.K. Jemisin or Vajra Chandrasekera or Simon Jimenez or Premee Mohamed or anything published by Neon Hemlock, and frankly that sounds like a them problem.

I swear to goats, if I open one more email from a company whose programs were perfectly FINE before they decided to add AI for some unknown and useless reason...

if AI biz was started by $5 trillion stolen in armed robbery from a bank it wouldnt be allowed to continue on. but since it was made by robbing artists of $5t worth of value, its fine.

"Black people are tired. Not metaphorically tired—actually tired. The kind of tired that turns every group chat into a mix of gallows humor and emotional triage."

I write about white ignorance and how exhausting it is to hear white ppl insist "this isn't who we are, when it's ALWAYS who we've been.

Disbelief over authoritarianism in America isn’t a cutesy personality trait. It’s a confession: You haven’t been paying attention.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

It's been a while since I mentioned that I have books, and that you can buy them, and that in this current hellscape stories with hopeful outcomes are important and can give you hope, too.

Thinking about a project is *also* working on it. A lot of creative work happens when we're brainstorming or even just letting the subconscious think through things.

If the project excites you, you'll have no trouble coming back to it.
christianek.bsky.social
Honestly, for me momentum will naturally speed and slow depending on what's happening in my life. The key is that I'm excited to be writing so I always come back to the work. It's good to remember that sometimes you need rest in order to continue. Rest doesn't mean you're not working!

Hi! I'm Christiane Knight, and I'm a writer of contemporary fantasy and speculative fiction. The project I'm focusing on is #4 in my fantasy series Stories of the Eleriannan, cleverly named Eleriannan #4 right now. My goal for this month is 20,000 words because I'm realistic 😅
