I've mostly stopped caring about the China Hawks because I think America at this point is largely toothless and acting out like an imperialist child smashing up a small South American country doesn't work against China's long term strategy which has proven to be a savvy bet.

Feels like given all the stressors and over 40 years of swinging a pickaxe at the infrastructure of the US (this thing is riddled like swiss cheese), we should be seeing a cascading collapse in America anytime soon. Maybe in a little under two months. Will be surprised if a 2025 crash doesn't occur.

The flex tape water tank meme but the guy is preserving water because Zohran has mismanaged utilities, also Immortan Joe is there and helpfully reminds voters not to become addicted to water

These are my favorite kinds of AI search results. I'd like to think that one percent of Lake Erie vanishes with each return like this.
A fake screenshot of someone querying "the name of a local business (I just want to see their hours)" on Google. The AI overview responds with:

Oh, shit. Don't panic. We'll get through this. Here is what your mysterious query might actually mean.

• Local businesses tend to have names: This helps people distinguish different businesses from each other. For example, Target can't be also called "Home Depot" because that would create confusion.

• Businesses that are local take less time to reach than businesses far away: If choosing between two businesses, keep in mind that if one of them is in a different state or country, it will take you longer to get there.

the inverse of this is how much of politics is now just accepting that you have to vote for people who hate you, so your best option is to vote for people who hate other people more than they hate you

I think the main refreshing thing about Mamdani, for me, is that he actually likes New York City and wants to see it thrive for everyone.

Stop being weird petty bitches aiming your guns at effective members of the left doing propaganda and conversion. You can dislike Hasan for his temper or that he isn't a NATO stan, whatever, but the guy has done a ton of work putting the Gaza genocide in the limelight for the last several years.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

IRS layoffs are costly for the U.S., redistributing wealth to the top 1% (who lie on their taxes at jaw-dropping rates).

The bottom 99% generally pay their taxes. cepr.org/voxeu/column...
Taxes evaded as a percent of taxes owed from a study showing that the 99th wealth percentile and above evade significantly more taxes than everyone else. The richest evade 25% of the taxes they owe on average. The bottom 95% evade less than 3% of their taxes on average. While these data are from Scandinavia, similar patterns are likely in other countries, including the U.S.

Trump is continuing to target Social Security with sneak attacks, aimed at weakening the program. Even though the attacks aren’t easy to spot, Trump is still hell-bent on trying to destroy Social Security. From Robert Kuttner:

Today on TAP: It's hard to kill America's most loved program outright—so Trump is strangling it by stealth.

Still can’t get over the fact that Thiel’s description of an antichrist is so thoroughly opposite of the Bible’s that it unironically makes him a compelling candidate for being one.
ebharrington.bsky.social
What Thiel is saying about tax havens = what Altman is saying about copyright:

"I can't be rich unless you let me steal from you."

This is how Broligarchs differ from oligarchs of yore: the latter tried to hide their thievery; the Broligarchs trumpet their entitlement to steal as a natural right.
