Textbook monetary economics views inflation as fundamentally driven by aggregate shocks, such as money supply or policy rates. This column presents empirical evidence that inflation is highly granular – it is significantly influenced by the prices set by a small number of large firms. Based on an analysis of 2.9 billion barcode-level transactions spanning 16 economies, it shows that firm-level idiosyncratic shocks account for a substantial share of inflation variability in advanced economies. Granular forces were also a key driver of the 2021–22 inflation shock and are shown to slow down the transmission of monetary policy.

National parks have SO MANY people from other countries (since they get real vacations!)

I think one of the red flags I spot and dip out on sight on is someone criticizing how someone else pronounces something. No wonder or whimsy how it got that way, no curiosity for accent or regional dialect, just black or white. I’m out, can’t trust you to try and get on anyone’s level.

ICE deported a woman who owned a home in the US for 30 years. A judge banned ICE from deporting her to Sierra Leone where she had been tortured, so it deported her to Ghana, which kidnapped her and sent her back Sierra Leone anyway. ICE is part of this illegal conspiracy.
