No, I was just thinking about how nervous I would be to buy another Sonos speaker

NLCS Game 5 would be at Wrigley Field on 10/18, if the Cubs win Saturday and don’t sweep/get swept by the Dodgers.

Has any company fumbled the bag as badly as Sonos? If they had any serious competition from outside of big tech vehicles for AI/voice assistants, they would be dead by now.

i have no opinions about Janet Mills as a person. it's just that if the actuarial tables put you at over a 40% chance of dying or becoming gravely disabled in your first term, you should not run. it's like running a terminal cancer patient.

This video is everywhere because it's a hilarious visual refutation of Portland being on fire. You can't get a mass movement going without convincing the masses

so yes, this does do something actually

This literally does nothing. You are not beating fascism by dressing up in inflatable suits and dancing

Portland is leading the way. This is how you (non violently) beat Fascism. Humor and ridicule are key.

Is the award meant for people who made difficult or even terrible choices because they were in a position to meaningfully push warring parties towards peace? Or is it for pure expressions of an aspirational utopia?

Seems to be both!

I couldn't believe this but it's true, Thiel can't decide whether the antichrist is Greta or Big Yud. Positively reeling.
(Washington Post) -- Tech billionaire Peter Thiel recently warned that Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and critics of technology or artificial intelligence are "legionnaires of the Antichrist" in private lectures on Christianity that connected government oversight of Silicon Valley to an apocalyptic future, according to recordings reviewed by The Washington Post.
In the four, roughly two-hour lectures, which began last month and culminated Monday at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, Thiel laid out his religious views to a sold-out audience told to keep the contents "off-the-record," according to an event listing. He argued that those who propose limits on technology development not only hinder business but threaten to usher in the destruction of the United States and an era of global totalitarian rule, according to the recordings.
"In the 17th, 18th century, the Antichrist would have been a Dr. Strangelove, a scientist who did all this sort of evil crazy science," Thiel said in his Sept. 15 opening talk, according to the recordings. "In the 21st century, the Antichrist is a Luddite who wants to stop all science. It's someone like Greta or Eliezer," he said, referring to Thunberg and Eliezer Yudkowsky, a prominent critic of the tech industry's approach to AI.

Actually amazing that practitioners of right wing grievance politics who attain positions of power tend to converge on this cosplay version of people management.

News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."
