Welcome, new friends! My book is pop culture criticism woven around my family's origin story: my mom ran away from her military officer family's home at 13, hitchhiked around the country, lived as an adult in 1970s NYC, then married an ex-con her own father's age. bookshop.org/p/books/runa...

"It’s difficult to imagine the upside-down universe where I end up writing this sentence, but it happens to be reality: The Vatican stood up to Donald Trump, but the Nobel committee bent the knee," writes @andrewohehir.bsky.social for @salon.com www.salon.com/2025/10/12/a...

Diane Keaton should have lived much longer. She would be in her 90s, chic and silly. She'd grace late night TV now and then and say outrageous things to shock the squares. She was our queen of quirk, yes, but also an actor of tremendous fragility and charm.

This is an incredible fact. I’m a little sad I didn’t know this when she was alive.

I mentioned wanting to visit a stationery store and Indianapolis conjured one for me on the walk to pick up lunch. Charming!

Printing presses kept their letters in cases.

Capital letters went in the upper case.
Smaller letters went in the lower case.

This is why we say ‘UPPER CASE’ and ‘lower case.’

Ok, but what did we call them before the invention of the printing press?

MAJUSCULE and minuscule.
