I've ranted about LLM "AI" elsewhere, and in replies, but to reiterate it in a thread that I can pin now:

One of the fundamentals of computer science is "Garbage In, Garbage Out". I learned this as a child, learning to program, over 40 years ago.

You cannot put bad data in, and get good data out.

That's right. It's time for part 3 of the FPS series; this time, a lot of assorted thoughts on what makes for good enemy design. This one was fun as hell to write.

building a better first person shooter part 3: enemy mine
So! First, we talked about a specific subgenre of first person shooter, loosely starting with Unreal and Half-Life and dying off around…

She sent me these to post to Bsky. My daughter cosplaying as Astrid Hofferson.

(Yes, that’s Stormbreaker; had some issues obtaining the correct ace in time)

If you read the Wikipedia article, it *hasn't* been running for two years. It achieved criticality in October 2023, and is running in batch mode, not continuously.

The thing about severe anxiety that I think folks who haven't experienced it don't understand, is that it's not just the anxiety attacks themselves that are debilitating, but living with the knowledge that I can lose control of my brain like that, and cannot regain it, no matter how much I want to.

Rightio, that's enough internet forever. Logging out, giving Plato a call, asking for directions to his cave.

I had a severe anxiety attack yesterday. I’ve spent the entirety of today feeling like another one is just under the surface. It’s not great.

About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages
Business Insider headline reads: UPS is telling customers that their packages coming to the US are marked for destruction.

Someone I used to go to church with posted this reel, and I’m so tired.
A screenshot of a reel by Russell Brand in which the person who reshared it captioned it with “RB is a type of John the Baptist”.

It just happened that the test I sat was good at testing the things my brain was good at. There’s no other use for it.

When I was much younger, I was IQ tested, and the result was pretty high.

Many years later, while struggling with some basic life skills that everyone else seemed to be able to do just fine, I came to the conclusion that IQ testing was bullshit.

I’m autistic, there’s some shit I’m really good at.

Y’know, it’d make a lot of horrifying sense to start flooding the zone with shitty AI videos like this to provide plausible deniability to videos like that of the assault & arrest of Debbie Brockman from WGN-TV by DHS.

“Oh, that’s just AI. She wasn’t really arrested.”
quatoria.bsky.social
this video is AI generated. the reporter has three arms and people in the background phase in and out of each other, and it comes from an AI sharing account

be cautious with what you share these days, friends

Yikes. I was not really aware that DHH was so far right.

I saw the initials and went “Wait, the Basecamp guy?”, and vaguely remembered *something* controversial.

News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."
