sort of political in that all politicians are swearing all the time now to show how *real* they are: you need a polished and decorous contrast for that to be meaningful. otherwise everyone is just talking like they're twelve and trying to out edge the other.
At the time it was hailed as revolutionary that if you take too long to do the final mission, your crew gets mulched, but I've always thought it was bad game design that there are zero consequences to delaying missions all game, and then a change in the rules when it matters most.
"You probably can't do anything" is the answer most likely to be correct, but if anything can be done, it's refusing to passively tolerate or actively contribute to their depression-fuelled thinking pattern.

"The world is not ending, your problems are fixable, now clean your room and hit the gym."
Living through the BLM protests/riots was just a permanent version of this facepalm moment.

I am an avid ~decade long follower of what is called the Pessimist's Archive. They collect historical predictions as to downfall of humanity because of technology.

But that technology has actually peeled people off. There were victims of TV. Of dial up. It was worth it.

I hope it's also this time.
He's still got it, folks.

AOC has just officially become the top House fundraiser, beating out Hakeem Jeffries. Now lemme take a big sip of coffee as I look at the age distribution of donors to AOC vs Jeffries

So often you can tell where Fox is blowing on a story just based on chyrons. "Critics say" or "Explaining (the bailout)" would be an expected tone on this. "Iowa farmers BASH TRUMP'S bailout" is a big statement because in Fox lore, farmers are good people and this blames Trump directly
This was a classic case of the Steve Jobs reality distortion field going up against basic materials engineering realities in an unforgiving environment.
The documentary is fascinating and horrifying. They *knew* the hull was made of crap material and was disintegrating with every dive.

They put mics in the hull to listen for any really loud cracking noise warning catastrophic failure was close, heard one, and then sent the sub down again anyway.

Growing up in the 90s in Montana it always throws me for a loop when Republicans use the term ‘Federal law enforcement’ in a positive way instead of a sneering one

every major factor which has led to the ruin of our democracy began with a corpse holding onto a political office they regard as their appropriate legacy or personal property. RBG. Biden. Kennedy.

‼️According to calculations made by OSINT researchers, the amount of Russian tanks in decent condition remaining in storage is ZERO.

◾️1656 are in "poor" condition (about 60% of them probably cannot be restored).
◾️1231 Russian tanks are in "worse" condition, according to the researchers.

She gets all the flowers. I mean ALL of them. If we see her, we immediately have to give her flowers.
I read an article awhile back about an adult wolf in Alaska that lost its pack and immediately started trying to befriend humans. I immediately massively downwardly revised my estimate of how difficult it was for iron age mankind to domesticate wolves.

One of my all-time favorite video game tropes is the villain whose monologue goes from arrogant to denial to anger to bargaining to terror.

On of my all-time video game pet peeves is a villain who talks shit after you've beat him. No, game, that's bad writing.

Demagogic president seizes money to pay standing army, arrogating to himself legislative power, while his cronies keep Congress out of session is honestly more or less exactly how the Founders thought this would end

Bouie was so right "The Pope is from Chicago" is an entire joke, like, that's just funny on its own
Someone in the crowd: “Go Cubs!”

Pope Leo XIV: “Han perdido! They lost!”
I don't think being a military contractor is inherently disqualifying. The GWOT featured chronically understaffed military contingents, and contractors picked up a lot of the slack doing stuff the regular military normally would have.
"Cancel culture" refers to the modern phenomenon of snitches having fingertip access to both a network of another snitches and the contact information of the employers of people they'd normally have a shitty little two-minute argument with at a house party.
The reason it's no longer a cultural focus is because the kind of people who would engage in that kind of behavior and the kind of people they'd attempt to inflict that behavior on have largely self-segregated at this point.
I've seen too many examples of people in online slapfights gleefully trying to tag in people's employers in a deliberate effort to fuck up their lives to have any patience for this "cancel culture never existed" gaslighting.
I think the idea of "cancel culture" persists mainly because it conveniently is some outside force acting on someone rather than them torching their reputation all on their own
