Another devastating blow for the disability community as this administration cuts almost every employee responsible for administering funding & oversight for IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).

Education should be a basic human right..and disabled kids are just as deserving.

Great work by my friend @kenjenkinsny.bsky.social. More public officials should stand up the way Ken has in Westchester.

Parents in my SF neighborhood are shuttling their kids to and from school on e-bikes. The kids love it. And, I love seeing our streets becoming more bike-friendly.

It's funny to me that I'm one of the biggest e-bike defenders on this site and I don't even own an e-bike (yet).

I just see their potential to get people out of cars and I want to fight for their expansion!

governments serious about climate action should be giving away e-bikes.

they more than pay for themselves

immediate and massive reductions in CO2

better public health outcomes

increased resiliency to inflation, stronger local economy.

We are headed the wrong direction when it comes to #sustainablemobility, #safestreets, and #publichealth.

Here's the math on e-bike giveaways.

An electric cargo bike is a car-replacement in most urban areas.

This is a savings of approx. $5-6k a year - and even upwards of $12k.

E-bikes.... You can be middle-aged with back & knee issues and still have fun... pub crawl, trail ride, quickly navigate town, hit nearby live music with drinks!

“The e-bike lets me keep riding bikes and spend time outside, even though I have this health condition,” she said. “I don’t think that a lot of people realize that e-bikes make things accessible to people with disabilities.” www.berkeleyside.org/2025/10/07/e...
Why electric bikes are everywhere in Berkeley
Residents of all ages and abilities are taking to electric bikes — used for commutes, school drop-offs, grocery trips and joy rides.

Got an e-bike in May 2024.

Got rid of our #Tesla in November 2024.

No longer needed two cars.

Plus Elon sucks.
holz-bau.bsky.social
that's right!

e-bikes replace *car* trips

they're the greatest climate mobility hack invented yet

governments should be giving them away
sfrost.bsky.social
Interesting study from Germany on e-bikes and the modes they replace:

"43.1% of electric bicycle trips and 63.2% of electric bicycle mileage would have been undertaken using a car if no e-bike had been available, highlighting their substantial potential to reduce transport-related CO2 emissions"

Also: if you work for ICE, even if you’re not one of the ones arresting citizens or tackling 15-year-olds or zip-tying kids together and segregating them by race, you’re part of the mechanism making it happen, and you should suffer long-term social and post-regime-change consequences.

Some weirdo on Twitter has been absolutely melting down for like 36 straight hours because I posted:

When this is over, do not forget what ICE did, and what ICE is. And do not make room for them in society. Make sure they know that they are, and will continue to be, reviled and beneath contempt.

The cruelty is the point
joshuaeakle.com
In Chicago, four vehicles descended and eight ICE agents moved in to kidnap a child.

She screams, “I’m 15,” as ICE yanks her from the car and kneels on her neck.

This is not about immigration enforcement.

It's about terrorizing Americans.

The end of federal enforcement of special ed laws. Some states - including MN - will likely be ok. But a lot of disabled kids in a lot of states are going to lose the education that federal law and decades of jurisprudence say they are owed.

The Education Department laid off nearly everyone at the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services.

Confronting Oppression and Injustice isn’t allowed in #Texas.
alandettlaff.com
Yesterday I was told that the class I’m scheduled to teach this month, Confronting Oppression & Injustice, is no longer part of our curriculum. This is a required class yet there was no discussion, no faculty vote, just an email saying the class no longer exists. This is what it’s like in Texas now.

Due to Tennessee’s abortion ban, Mayron Hollis was forced to continue a pregnancy that threatened her life. An emergency delivery left her without a uterus and her baby with medical issues.

This was their first year in a post-Roe state (pub. Feb. 2024):
She Was Denied an Abortion After Roe Fell. This Is a Year in Her Family’s Life.
Tennessee law prohibits women from having abortions in nearly all circumstances. But once the babies are here, the state provides little help. We followed one family as they struggled to make it.

As a recreational cyclist, I got pretty excited when I realized that ebikes basically eliminate the "Ugh, I can't ride up hills!" barrier for casual/starting commuter cyclists. In many areas, it's one of the biggest barriers to adoption.

“The big advantage of bikes is that they go directly from where you start to where you finish, when you need to go. The advantage over cars is that they need perhaps 1/10th of the amount of space. Roads that jam up quickly with cars can carry effectively unlimited numbers of people by bicycle.”
