Mostly organic material and a series of vibrations registering as sound. Abides in the liminal space between the Twin Cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, where nothing is quite real and anything is possible. Drums, mandolin. Rarely at the same time.

The universe winds down. That's how it's made.
But memory is everything to lose;
Although some of the colors have to fade,
Do not believe you'll get the chance to choose.
Regret, by definition, comes too late;
Say what you mean. Bear witness. Iterate.

“Can you explain this gap in your resume?”

Me thinking quickly on my feet to explain the period when I worked for ICE: “I was selling drugs… ,uh, to children.”
aricohn.com
Some weirdo on Twitter has been absolutely melting down for like 36 straight hours because I posted:

When this is over, do not forget what ICE did, and what ICE is. And do not make room for them in society. Make sure they know that they are, and will continue to be, reviled and beneath contempt.

Portland's famous Unipiper was spotted at the Portland ICE protest where he played his bagpipes in front of Santa, Mr. Potato Head, Garfield and more -- all while surrounded by bubbles.

I hear you, truly, but it all comes with a cost and I don’t want to start excusing that cost just because the resulting product is somehow in my favor or even for the greater good.

If there’s a human-made version, I will gladly buy/use/share it. I love the concept.

NS: ChatGPT, who’s going to win the game?

CGPT: Detroit, 3-2, in the 15th inning.

NS [the next day, $100k poorer]: I'm just not seeing the consistent productivity gains from LLMs that I would have expected if you'd asked me 6 months ago.

Lived through this at a small paper. Every consultant pitch seemed like what someone would recommend if they didn't want any more newspapers.

If you think you know why US newspapers died, this feature documentary now streaming for free on PBS might surprise you. It wasn't the Internet. Newspapers were specifically targeted by vulture capitalists.

I composed the score for the film, which features electric cello & Crowfoot guitars.

Trying to track down the origin of the Shepard Fairey-esque “HOP” poster with the Portland frog made to look like the Obama Hope poster. Turns out to be AI, unfortunately.

And a senior product manager for Wizards of the Coast says in response to being told this, “Good, then it’s not copyrightable.”

Yesterday I was told that the class I’m scheduled to teach this month, Confronting Oppression & Injustice, is no longer part of our curriculum. This is a required class yet there was no discussion, no faculty vote, just an email saying the class no longer exists. This is what it’s like in Texas now.

i do think it’s fun that if you ask people of the right age to have even experienced jared leto in my so called life what their favorite experience of jared leto was, more than half of them will say, “oh, when he was beaten ugly in fight club because jack wanted to destroy something beautiful.”

In 1995, you could make a Brady Bunch movie successful enough to be a hit because kids born a decade after the show ended were still exposed to daily reruns because they were always on.

Today, my kid can just watch what ge already likes when he wants so he’s never force-fed the culture of MY youth

I’m not trying to give @pbs.org ideas for raising money—but I am. I would buy women’s fit T-shirts of all my favorite childhood shows. Reading rainbow, 321 contact, square one, zoobiliee zoo. I feel like two generations will run to donate even more money for shirts with Levar Burton on them…
