Watching people being brutalized by the state, secure in the knowledge that I'm safe because I don't do anything wrong. And the best part? The state can't suddenly and arbitrarily redefine what "wrong" means

I love how Republicans are saying NO KINGS is anti-American and anti-fascism is fighting against American interests and Democrats are like "what's up with healthcare premiums and groceries" as if freedom from a monarchy isn't considered a kitchen table issue

It's really simple

Voters want an opposition party that will fight for them, and democracy, like there's no tomorrow

Dem elites want a members-only social club where polite, dues-paying members who they like to see at cocktail parties get rewarded with plum roles www.politico.com/news/2025/10...
Chuck Schumer gets his preferred candidate, Janet Mills, in crowded Maine Senate race
Schumer had been aggressively recruiting Mills to challenge Republican Susan Collins.

a lot of people want to read Trump and team's fossil fuel obsession as being about *money* but while there is of course a corruption element, it's primarily pure culture war stuff. even many of the big fossil fuel companies want to get into renewables because it's so obviously the future.

Coal production and employment in Wyoming has steadily been declining, much like the rest of the industry in the US.

Coal is a dead industry.

(Chart from here: www.uwyo.edu/cbea/wyoming... )
Graphs showing coal production (left) and employment in coal (right) for the state of Wyoming from 1983 to 2020 from the linked website. Coal production was rapidly increasing until 2008 and has more or less steadily decreased since. Employment in coal likewise rapidly increased until 2009, was stable until 2012 and has rapidly decreased since.

Okay this is probably a snobby one:
James Joyce Ulysses is fun and easy if you approach as if it's the the literary version of a jazz record. The story is secondary. It's about turning the language that was force on you by the oppressor into a frantic, beat driven thing.

And the best adaptation of any Dickens that has ever been put onto the screen, or ever will be, is the Muppets Christmas Carol. But I think that is quite possibly the least unhinged opinion it is possible to have about Dickens. It's simply fact.

How do you know if you live in a free country?

Because it says so on your police registration papers.

There are more pictures of Donald Trump with Epstein than there are of Donald Trump with Eric. Must sting.

I'm traveling right now. I brought a manilla folder with printouts of restaurant listings from yelp. Color coded highlighter: breakfast, lunch, and dinner). I shit you not.

I think it’s fucked up when they started going to space because that’s just not a place X-men should go. You’ve got your space superheroes and your non-space superheroes. Gambit on a spaceship going “Mon Ami that star is going supernova!” is goofy

What's an opinion about X-Men that'll get you sent to jail? Is Jean really interesting or really boring? Should Logan have stayed dead? Do you think a certain x-mens outfit is positively horrendous even though people seem to love it?

The Brood Saga is better than Dark Phoenix imo 🤷

He could be so good, but he lost interest and phoned it in for years. Such sloppy writing. There was an internet list of all the loose threads and dropped plot lines.

one of my takeaways from this great piece is that weiss just doesn’t…sound like an intelligent person? or at least, not someone who has thought even a little bit about how and why they think the things that they do. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gieT...
