For me Springsteen is the very uncool odd man out, but I fully recognize that’s a product of my introduction to him and my subsequent disinterest in his ongoing creative development.

I know it’s fun to dunk on this, and I personally think Johnny Cash was a total badass, but there was a window of time—from the early-80s to mid-90s—and if you became aware of him then, you were only aware of a musician who had become a sad parody of himself, and of country music on the whole.
