Finish this sentence: “The biggest obstacle to actually turning MY city into a better city for people is __________________________.”

I once helped a writer work out the logistics of an ice climbing rescue using the equipment available in a medieval-type fantasy world. I also once described to another writer what climbing a cliff physically feels like and how it works (you don't generally haul yourself up with your arms)

The @chicago.suntimes.com photographer who risked their personal health and safety to take this photograph is Anthony Vazquez. Please credit photographers and media outlets. In this age of misinformation, a photo with no context could be anything at all.

Please remind us who the domestic terrorists are again.
Photo from Chicago: DHS militarized agent holding a gun up directly in someone’s face as the victim has their hands up, pleading for them not to shoot.

And EVERYTHING about this episode is speaking to me. About 40 minutes into this convo they get into how you can't understand this era in American politics without dealing with pro wrestling culture and I am SO HERE for it (they get there from UFC now being a propaganda arm of the US administration)

They also, later in the conversation, get into how progressive voices - even if they don't get fired from their jobs - get algorithmically buried and/or shouted down because of how much of "the internet" belongs to a very few ultra-rich oligarchs who benefit from their voices being suppressed

Also, maybe I'm being a broken record but I love that this podcast exists. Just a bunch of jiujitsu guys talking about progressive politics, and every so often jabbing a thumb pointedly in the direction of the elephant in the combat sports room.

Okay this is super cool

Here's a recording of the pilot of C-GZPT, a Cirrus SR22, tracing the Jays logo over Nova Scotia

I dunno, within the first bit of this conversation she mentions that she's basically been shadowbanned off Twitter and lost her job at the Washington Post. And "the internet" doesn't PAY you, not much and not without a ton of work, so holding your livelihood hostage is kind of silencing you.

HELL yes I would play this, and I would play it with Tengger Cavalry's acoustic work in the background

She was actually a great-great aunt, came over from Glasgow. But still, it never occurred to me before that I actually *have* a great-aunt Euphemia lol
k8thek8.bsky.social
This is a bizarre thing to randomly come across when you actually HAD a great-aunt named Euphemia

"Good News! Your great-aunt Euphemia has died! Again!"

Thanks, and good to know, that's my neighbourhood! I did a bunch of stretches this evening and it seems to be doing okay-ish

I'll have to head out there: nuthatches are great, they're like fancy racing chickadees.

Dear Toronto: We will stop scoring runs this game if Doug Ford agrees to stop tearing out bike lanes. Until then, the runs will continue.
k8thek8.bsky.social
Ooh, you got a nuthatch to land on your hand? I've never pulled that off

Couldn't climb today, but thought a tweaked back might benefit from a walk in the woods. This isn't him/her, but one of the chickadees I encountered had been banded three times, and I ran into the same bird twice at two different points in my walk, which was cool. Also I love chickadees immensely.
An outstretched hand with sunflower seeds in the palm, and a black-capped chickadee perched on the fingers eyeing the seeds

I once had a job as a research assistant and editor for a man who was writing a novel about Columbus and the conquistadors and I know waaaay too much about Columbus and yep, he was a monster among monsters.

Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.

Honestly, that video just made me emotional. Makes me believe good will win over evil because good is joyful (and weird)

A lil game I've started playing is when I'm waiting in my car at a light and I see the person next to me on their phone, I do a little beep of the horn just to watch them jump and snap their attention up because they think the light has changed. Sometimes they even put the phone down for a moment!
