The use of AI to marionette a woman whose tortured existence was spent trying to carve her own life and identity out of the space men forced her into is both damningly macabre and a surprisingly perfect encapsulation of the problems with this ghoulish use of technology.

Yes! I’m such a fan of this one!

It’s a gem of a book and what a good time to read it

Anyway I keep forgetting to yell about this book when it is 🍂seasonal 🍂 but THE APPLE-TREE THRONE (a little vanity project I self-pubbed in 2018) is also available on Kobo and in audio!

A young soldier returned from war is haunted by the ghost of his commanding officer (a posh git)

Would it surprise you that the owner of Scientific American's parent company, Stefan von Holtzbrinck, invested $37 million in Inkitt, an AI firm?

What a SHOCK

authors need to start beefing with each other via long-winded letters & essays published in "serious" magazines again

No consequences to being transphobic, in fact you’ll be praised for looking the other way if not full on going anti trans bigot

What are your theories as to why nominally 'liberal' people like Simon Pegg and Matt Berry are willing to work with Rowling?

My laptop is nearly a decade old. My e-reader is in its teens and as low-tech as possible. My phone is just a few years old, but thankfully can't handle many of the AI features. Is there yet a market for old electronics to opt out of this crap

Who knew the future would adapt Cyrano de Bergerac as dystopian nonfiction.

this is sociopathic behaviour and I think we need to treat it as such! just because something has become easy to do doesn't mean it has become less creepy, or more acceptable!

“If it makes you laugh, who cares if it’s AI?” Well, I care because my laughter and aesthetic pleasure is not how I determine whether a thing is ethical or good for society. I like how the sun bounces off of oil slicks in parking lots, does not mean I want oil spills everywhere.

This is basically how AI took over the workplace.

Sure, there was some push (Microsoft baking it into Office) but the "use AI for everything or be fired" dorks are do-nothing managers, using their free time to become TESCREAL-pilled, and posturing in front of each other about how agentic they are.

Whenever you hear a tech CEO spinning out *absolute fucking nonsense* using star trek language, some of what you're hearing is a screeching positive feedback loop between him and the crackpots he's spending all of his time listening to.

Some of whom he literally created.

Honestly, it’s exhausting that people think Gazans should only ask for help to survive to eat, to stay alive but not to dream, to study, or to rebuild their lives. Wanting education, safety, and a future isn’t greed. It’s being human.

A few of the moths that live on my land. Taken from my #1000postcards artwork; depicting what biodiversity looks like when land is managed predominantly for nature. Painted in watercolour & displayed in a way that echos museum specimen cabinets. Butterflies of the night
