Thanks for that- was just at the EAT launch and we’re getting so much better at the nuance that the science needs for more equitable and just recommendations for food system transformation that account for climate but also other earth systems (water, biodiversity…)

According to scientists, practical experience of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) would be instructive for the establishment of the IPP.

I think a lot about what Carl Sagan said in one of his final interviews.
"WE'VE ARRANGED A society based on science and technology, in which nobody understands anything about science technology. And this combustible mixture of ignorance and power, sooner or later, is going to blow up in our faces. Who is running the science and technology in a democracy if the people don't know anything about it?"
"Science is more than a body of knowledge, it's a way of thinking. A way of skeptically interrogating the universe with a fine understanding of human fallibility. If we are not able to ask skeptical questions, to interrogate those who tell us that something is true, to be skeptical of those in authority, then we're up for grabs for the next charlatan, political or religious, who comes ambling along."

Great presentation from Andy Stirling (SPRU) at #Metascience2025 highlighting how engagement with policymakers is as much about 'justification' as 'truth'. We must seek to embrace uncertainty and not hide complexity in academic labour, understanding that dissensus is a powerful bulwark to democracy.

IPBES task force on models and scenarios NFF explained

Nature Futures Framework
@laurap18.bsky.social +
doi.org/10.1016/B978...
"This chapter examines the NFF and its potential to guide transformative policy solutions rooted in diverse and locally held values of nature."
Fig. 3. Summary of 31 studies published in academic journals that engaged with the NFF, reviewed by Okayasu et al. (2025), showing the proportions of: a) methods (72 total counts), b) scenario types (49 total counts), c) policy cycle stages (62 total counts), and d) outputs generated in the application of the NFF (87 total counts). As studies can fall into multiple categories, the total count exceeds the number of studies.
