It's why Quake 4 has vehicle sections, and why a really good game has a really lousy stealth level or two, or just any of the awkward "wait why do I have to stop doing the cool fun thing and do this tower of hanoi instead?" moments in games over the decades.

I found myself immediately rolling my eyes and thinking yeah this is when some producer, almost certainly publisher side, said "We have to 'break up the gameplay' here", because producers love saying that, it's like some magic phrase that lets them feel effective.
