Hi everybody!

I'm Meghan, a disaster researcher working in business resiliency for a large financial firm. Outside of work, I'm active in my community (6th generation in the town), sew and tailor things, and chill with my orange tabbies. I'll research almost anything and make a presentation on it.

These strikes are illegal for about 7 reasons:
1. Not self-defense
2. No (or any) Congressional authorization
3. No evidence of criminal wrongdoing
4. Occurred in int'l waters
5. No open state of hostilities
6. Criminal groups are not terrorists legally
7. No id on people killed or group targeted

I keep telling people who want prognostications that we're at a moment of extremely high variance. The future could plausibly go in a wider variety of directions--from full-on authoritarianism to backlash promoting a Third Reconstruction--than at any time in recent history.

If you have never been to a protest before, and you’re nervous about going to no Kings, but you wanna go, comment below with your concerns.

And if you’ve protested, read the comments, and if you find one that you can alleviate their concern, reply.

Hopefully this will get more people to attend!

Why do @semperwry.bsky.social and I have an active lawsuit to simply get the plaque honoring officers who defended the Capitol on January 6th? Cut the bullshit virture signaling mike. You stand with donald... your actions are louder than your words.

We’ve met with Greta Thunberg and others in the flotilla. They describe hours-long scenes of torture and sexual harassment in Israeli captivity. Experts conclude that they have been subjected to serious crimes – Sweden’s foreign minister believes they have themselves to blame.

Not only is it invented, it is ASININE.

We've had the Voting Rights Act for 60 years.

On top of 88 years of Jim Crow and 250 years of slavery.

If there is a time limit, it should 250 + 88.

I have such loathing for these justices.

Justice Kavanaugh in the Callais oral argument keeps alluding to some longstanding requirement of strict scrutiny that use of race have a time limit. This is invented.

I'm not a lawyer but you'd think that people who claim to be "originalists" would reject Marbury v Madison since holding laws unconstitutional is not IN the constitution. Justice Marshall took that right for himself (a very ballsy move for 1804) and the court. He literally made it up. Poof. Magic.

anyway every time someone argues that John Roberts is a Reasonable Moderate I want to scream

his lifelong goal is the reinstitution of segregation and he has almost achieved it, just because he doesn’t say the n word out loud during court arguments doesn’t make him any less of a racist

As a baby lawyer in the Reagan White House, John Roberts was writing memos arguing that violations of the Voting Rights Act should not be "too easy to prove." This is not just any legal issue that happens to come before him. This is his life's work. He just wants to finish what he started.

I'm a bit of a dissent apologist for this reason

I understand the kinda nihilist dunks on them as meaningless, but i've seen too many dissents become majority opinions to think they don't have value--as doctrinal roadmaps, as mobilizing tools, as records of the truth when the majority lies, etc.

If going forward we ever fulfill the actual promise of our Constitution, the dissents from this era of #SCOTUS are going to be very important and influential.

One of my only remaining joys is that every single time Amy Coney Barrett makes a stupid argument, Ketanji Brown Jackson gets a chance to follow up and illustrate her stupidity.
And this will happen again, and again, for the rest of Barrett's life.

THE WHOLE REASON we're arguing the case this year, after it was ALREADY argued last year, is that Roberts couldn't figure out how to get away from the court's own ruling in Milligan. Now, he's figured it out.

My memory is quite the opposite. “No kings” has actually worked out really well for the American economy for centuries.

It’s the arrival of a would-be king that has shut everything down.

You gently run your hand through the rack. You can feel it—pure cotton, rich wool, Irish linen. The plump buttonholes are handsewn; the buttons attached with a firm shank. You flip the price tag over. It's affordable

You buy the jacket and go home, which is only 15 mins away. Your apt is $600/month

New, from me: I break down all that is happening with the shutdown.
Shutdowns are bad. But only Trump and Russ Vought are brave enough to ask: what if shutdowns aren’t painful enough? How can we use this as an opportunity to target our political enemies? 🧵

‼️ this was a striking moment, to me

Louisiana was basically like 'here come these Black people always asking for more' and Justice Jackson was like, 'that's not what the fuck they're asking for, they're saying: stop discriminating against us'
elienyc.bsky.social
Louisiana: "The plaintiffs came in and said 'we want a second majority-minority district."
KBJ: "NO THEY DID NOT. They said our votes are being dilluted."
Louisiana: "That's the same thing."
KBJ: "No it's not. ... trust me on this."

JD Vance can dismiss the Young Republicans as a college group chat.

But let's be clear: the group chat includes a State Senator, a Trump Admin official, and multiple Republican staffers — and some of the worst comments came from folks associated with Mike Johnson, Elise Stefanik, and Mike Lawler.
