I wrote a trilogy of novels published by HarperCollins about a brother and sister caught on opposite sides of the war to unite Viking Age Norway.

Today is my birthday and if you are inclined to share this, it would be a lovely present!

The first: www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-half-d...
The Half-Drowned King|Paperback
"Linnea Hartsuyker brings myth and legend roaring to life in this superbly good page-turning saga of Viking-era Norway. The book’s fiercest magic shines in the characters of Ragnvald and Svanhil...

Also kinda nods at their general "ACs are unnecessary luxuries" mentality

Working with an entirely different set of parameters there

Genuinely a wonder of evolution. Biological tanks. In addition to all of this, they eat ANYTHING, can get fat off nothing but fucking acorns and every toxin or bad thing they eat goes right into that protective layer of fat armor up to and including fucking radiation.

A disaster hits, domesticated pigs escape into the wilderness, and in a few weeks have gone super Saiyan.

Each now feral sow giving birth to dozen pigs, 3 times a year: wildly exponential growth.

I know someone who admits they don't think about symbolism & all the fiddly bits of what they watch but they enjoy other people's conversations about that kind of thing, in moderation

Basically, did we break the model & fuck ourselves up? Maybe.

Like maybe, without room to breathe in 'appointment' (1x/week) scheduling, episode pacing, 'filler' eps, the brain steps back on its own and it's just background noise

Vs regular glorified miniseries (8ep binged seasons) queues you to watch everything that way
mokie.bsky.social
I think it circles the "22 episodes! Let us have filler!" conversations of recent years, at least, about how some media needs room to breathe and bloom

Like I wonder how much the "turn off the brain"/"overanalyze everything" instincts are about losing a balance in the media itself?

this would not be *my* immediate response to seeing a dead raccoon in my yard but the human experience is vast
a picture of a snow-covered lump that is purportedly a dead raccoon with a long rambling caption about how the coyotes around her house are indications of trickster energy and that this dead raccoon somehow symbolizes her growing psychic power idk

The cycle of homelessness and criminalization
This image portrays a satirical critique of systemic issues surrounding homelessness and criminalization. It visually represents the cyclical challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness:
	1.	A person is denied shelter due to lack of resources (“Sorry, out of beds. Good luck.”).
	2.	They are later punished for sleeping in public, which has been criminalized (“Get up! Public sleeping is now a crime. You’re going to jail.”).
	3.	After serving their time, they are released but continue to face barriers (“You’ve been in jail! I’d never hire you or rent to you.”).

The illustration highlights how systemic obstacles perpetuate homelessness rather than resolving it, presenting a no-win situation for those trapped in the cycle.

Anyway, it's deliciously crisp and herby, not too 'green', not too 'smack me in the face with a bag of black licorice'

There are nice absinthes at lower price points, but if you're looking for swank, it's a good one

Western Alaska was hit hard by the recent storms. Houses floated away in Kipnuk, houses flipped over, people lost everything from the flooding that came with the storms. Please donate if you can. This group has a long history of supporting AK communities.

As a reminder: these kinds of levels and exams are completely made up and typically children who go through traumatic events (earthquake, hurricanes, war) are considered to have experienced a disrupted education. We've given our children no such grace.

Not that *I* find it unhinged, but some people do:

There is no inherently superior form or genre of literature. You can find crap in all of them and absolute masterworks too.
