Complete tyranny.

The kind we’ve always professed to oppose

New — Video shared with me shows ICE officers in DC detaining a man on Friday.

Bystander filming asks man for his name. ICE agent lies and says he’s not allowed to speak to him “by law” and another says “We’ve arrested American citizens for being too close…If he gets any closer, put him in cuffs.”

"Argentina Bailout" is tautologically objectionable, all that's left is to attribute it to Trump. I think peppering in descriptors like "$20B" or "massive" can help too but isn't strictly necessary
mtsw.bsky.social
It is a good sign for us that the effective-for-our-side framing "Trump's Argentina Bailout" is how it's being referred to in NYT headlines. If that's the language being used we've already won the argument on the issue. Trump's Argentina Bailout

When the bailout for Argentina…is actually a bailout for the Treasury Secretary’s hedge fund billionaires.

They get richer…and it just gets harder for you.

Not at all surprising how quickly they went from "the worst of the worst illegals" to "American citizens who get too close".

1.6 million crypto traders had their positions liquidated after Trump announced 100% tariffs on China. There were $16.6B in losses from liquidated long positions which is 10x the amount from COVID and FTX related crashes.

I’m surprised Trump Always Chickens Out didn’t apply this time, instead panic
Crypto bloodbath sees $19B in leveraged positions erased
Over $19B in leveraged positions liquidation hit crypto markets, affecting 1.6 million traders as Bitcoin and Ethereum saw sharp declines.

More moral and message clarity from another genuine leader within the Democratic Party.

@sanders.senate.gov: "No, Speaker Johnson, the #NoKings Rally on October 18th is not a 'hate America' rally. ... It’s a rally of millions of people who believe in American freedom and are not going to allow you and President Trump to turn us into an authoritarian country."

They like what Trump is doing, this really isn't hard. It's not both-sideism, it's running cover for the regime by choice in order to reach a desired outcome. Can we please stop cutting this institution slack it does not deserve?
davidcorn.bsky.social
A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

Had this convo with someone at the bar tonight: (regular season only) if both teams agree, and they play each other the next day, end the game and tomorrows game is double or nothing
mtsw.bsky.social
I actually kind of like this because it would incentivize teams to use their best pitching position player (or even roster plausible two way players) vs now when position players pitch in blowouts where they just pick the guy least likely to get hurt bsky.app/profile/meye...
meyerson.bsky.social
Odd innings, each team has to put in a position player to pitch.
mtsw.bsky.social
If you insist on ending tie games earlier the following are all better ideas than the free runner on second:

- ending game in tie after 12
- runners left on base return for next inning
- teams have to pull a fielder every inning after 10 or 12
mtsw.bsky.social
It sucks ass. I hate both the idea of the rule (ending extra innings games faster) and the implementation (free runner on second is a dumb way to do it) bsky.app/profile/roey...
roey.bsky.social
This game is the best argument I've seen in a long time for getting rid of it permanently.

Not me. Take it to 20 innings fuck to the ghostrunner bsky.app/profile/leve...

Update: Bari Weiss’s first pitch at CBS — a roundtable with Antony Blinken, Mike Pompeo, and Hillary Clinton that ended up being a virtual interview with Clinton & Condoleezza Rice — has about 150 viewers on YouTube.

Added with the 24/7 CBS stream, it’s just over 1200 viewers.

Part of the reason the right aggressively demonizes George Soros is to dissuade any other left-of-center wealthy guys from doing actual politics the way every right wing billionaire happily does.

rightist plutocrats are doing politics. liberal plutocrats are doing charity. it’s an entirely different mindset.

Illinois state police answer to the governor though and are also assisting ICE
mtsw.bsky.social
We already tested this extensively during Covid and BLM and found that police refused to enforce masking requirements or business closures for ideological reasons and brutalized protesters despite orders not to. What's left to test? bsky.app/profile/book...
bookenj.bsky.social
not disagreeing with you, but we should actually test police oversight for the same reason one should test their backups. i would rather find out everything is broken while there is still time to do somethig about it
mtsw.bsky.social
Yes ultimately many Dem electeds are afraid to give police under their command lawful orders because they think they will not be obeyed and the consequences that fact would have for them and for their state.
impemboganecue.bsky.social
It’s easy to call out Pritzker on this but something darker may be happening here. I’m not sure if he is secretly helping Trump behind the scenes. I think he’s terrified to test whether state police would obey him at all if he used them against the feds

A few minutes ago in the House:

- Speaker Mike Johnson officially cancels votes next week, extending the House recess through a fourth week

- House Republicans block Democrats from passing a bill to pay the troops during the shutdown, ensuring they will miss paychecks next week
House Press Gallery: During today's pro forma session, the Clerk read a message from the Speaker designating Tuesday, October 14 through Sunday, October 19 as a district work period. Punchbowl's Briana Reilly: House gaveled in and out of its pro forma just now w/o recognizing Rep Elfreth, who was seeking to UC a mil pay bill from Rep Sykes.

Elfreth told reporters after that House Dems stand “ready and willing to take” up standalone legislation to pay troops.
