But wait, I was told the government was working more efficiently now. There's a whole department and everything.

"Depends on who you ask" framing is one of the most grating tics in modern political journalism. Objective reality exists and your job is to describe it.

A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

No, the media will say that "experts say" it's "more complicated." On the media complicity Bingo card, "experts say" is the new FREE SPACE.

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

Great thread about why immigration is awesome and cities rule because they're diverse.
kathbarbadoro.bsky.social
I love living in a city full of immigrants and tons and tons of people who are not at all like me and not like each other. It makes us all better and it makes our city better. I know I’m preaching to the choir by saying this on the lib app but I sometimes just get so overwhelmed by how special it is

I really think this is why the subway looms so large in the conservative American mind. Because 99% of the time it is proof that the American experiment in diversity triumphs, as long as paranoid white people aren’t there

Also, I don't know how many times you use the word "public," but all the same, don't forget CTRL+F "pubic" throughout the whole manuscript.

Today, ICE agents apprehended someone on a community college in the Chicago area (College of Lake County). They weren't in any buildings, but they were on campus. Apparently campus police came to the scene, conferred with ICE agents, and then the arrest continued. No news on whether it was a student

As the people who insist otherwise try to burn the country, it's important to affirm that immigrants, from everywhere, are awesome, and America is better the more immigrants we have. You have to be just empty and vapid and unimaginably small to reject that.

There have been roughly 1400 immigration-related arrests in DC since early August, according to CBS News. Who was arrested? What happened to them? Who and what did they leave behind?
www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-d...
Nearly 1,400 of those arrests were counted as administrative arrests by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, the federal agency spearheading Mr. Trump's mass deportation campaign. Those arrests involve immigrants ICE seeks to deport because of alleged civil violations of federal immigration law, like entering the U.S. illegally or overstaying a visa. It's unclear how many of those arrested by ICE had criminal histories in addition to their alleged civil immigration violations.

For almost $9m, you can live in a "compound" by yourself, or for a tiny fraction of that, you can live in my apartment complex, where you simply have to share the amenities with other people.

Tonight's #FridayNightZillow kicks off with a Michigan Madness MegaMansion Compound built for the founder of Domino's Pizza. It's ours for just $8.75M. 53K SF (!), including a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired main home, an ice rink, guest house, 30 acres. Think timeshare! www.zillow.com/homedetails/...

My apartment has a racquetball court, a pickleball court, a basketball court, gym, soft play area for little kids, an outdoor playground, gas grills, and an outdoor pool.
And my unit doesn't cost millions of dollars, like this garish monstrosity does.
steventdennis.bsky.social
They didn't skimp on the amenities. A legit pool, hot tub, racquetball court and tennis court. If we buy it, I'd want to add a little electric train that goes all around the property. #FridayNightZillow
