Just out at JOP (www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/epdf/10....) : Why do so few working-class people hold office? It's not lack of interest. Noam Lupu and I ran 10 surveys in 8 countries and found no evidence of a social class gap in how often qualified people consider running.

And yes, they've voted for the ongoing destruction of their own region. Four years from now, nothing will change. But the fact that some of these voters are so spun up over culture war issues is a warning to Democrats, who may not be able to totally fight the propaganda, but need to reasses. /2

(2/2) . . . we don't find a social class gap in interest in running for office (but find the well-documented gender gap). Something is keeping working-class people out of office, but it's not interest (or, qualifications, or voter support). What could it be . . . ? www.noamlupu.com/Carnes_Lupu_...

Interest in running (nascent ambition) can lead to representation gaps. However, ...(1/2)

It remains baffling to me why people call themselves “Democratic Socialist”—with all its Soviet totalitarian connotations—rather than “Social Democrat,” which is what the rest of the world calls people with exactly the same policy positions.
