This. This. This. @kenmartin.bsky.social @schumer.senate.gov @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social: take note. You organize not by pandering to some mythical center, but by meeting people's needs. This has to be about what people do for each other. Not what your pollsters and consultants advise. Get to work.

If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net

Cannot express enough appreciation for the teams *flying through a hurricane* while not being paid.
NOAA hurricane hunters flying aboard a P-3 Orion aircraft ("Kermit") are monitoring Hurricane Melissa as most aircraft steer clear. The storm poses a catastrophic threat to Jamaica and Haiti.

The crew are among the many federal workers working without pay during the US government shutdown.

Walmart employees? On SNAP. Junior US military personnel with families? On SNAP. Wherever workers are being underpaid, they are on SNAP.
Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

That’s $500 million lost per day
Every $1 invested in SNAP generates $1.80 in local economic activity. Without SNAP, that will mean a loss of $15 billion to the US economy just in November alone.

but don’t take away from that the idea that food banks are useless. they’re going to feed people- not going to feed them enough, and not going to feed enough people, but food in mouths.

anything you can do for food banks right now isn’t at all wasted, it is more sure to be useful than ever

there are a bunch of smart people correctly saying that we can’t replace SNAP with food banks, and that’s true, because we can’t replace SNAP with anything that doesn’t basically look like SNAP, and we certainly can’t do it in a week

I don't know who said it a few days ago but "it will be remembered we chose racism over having a country" will stick with me for some time.

And the crowd interrupted Hochul multiple times to chant “tax the rich” until she finally said, “we hear you.”

I wish they said explicitly that there's $5 billion in emergency reserves they're refusing to use instead they're happy to let people - mostly children, the disabled, and elderly, starve.

If your company has a subscription, urge them to cancel it.
Lite secret about legacy newspapers & subscriptions: the Washington Post & the New York Times for decades didn’t care about consumer subscriptions cancellations because they were almost entirely profitable because of CORPORATE subscriptions. That was the stable money in subscriptions

Yep.
The way we avoid having to do all of this again in 8 or 12 or 16 or 24 years is by imprinting a generational memory of, "oh, the last time they did that, all of the top guys - I mean, the ones who survived - went to prison for the rest of their lives, and had their property seized."

A lot of folks may think that just yelling at ICE agents is ineffective, but consider the cumulative psychological toll of being yelled at EVERY DAY when trying to do shit. Even the biggest asshole in the world who doesn't give a shit about other people will feel the pressure.

It’s that they think nothing should be illegal unless it’s shoplifting or fair evasion, in which case: shot on sight
Genuine checking-my-own-biases question:

Feel like elite-school prof op-eds are always “here’s why this far right winger is good for liberals” or “Trump actually is a king.”

Is that right? Or is it just saliency (they stick in my mind)? Or availability (sane op-eds get ignored, bad hate-reposted)?
