One thing that is clear from the kicker to this excellent WSJ story on the WH ballroom is that Trump himself can't believe how easy it is to run roughshod over rules and traditions.

There's probably a metaphor in there somewhere.

“but what can dems do right now?”

literally anything. any bit of good. literally anything at all.
If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net

"Andy Ngo and other far right extremists have been targeting Avalos since at least as early as July and trying to paint her as violent and a 'member of Antifa.' On court record, Ngo has admitted that his social media posts can lead to violence."

It's projection from the right. All the way down.
Portland City Councilor @counciloravalos.bsky.social woke up to her car and home engulfed in flames late last night. She had to grab her cat and escape to safety.

I've been harping on using FSA funds because workers lose $4 BILLION in unspent funds each year. I don't think many people even know about the FSA store as just one example of a simpler way to spend some of that money. Use it for others if you don't need it yourself.

Workers Are Losing Over $4 Billion in Unspent FSA Money a Year
An exclusive Money analysis finds that 47% of workers failed to drain their FSA balances in 2023, adding up to billions in lost money.

It’s remarkable how closely Trump 2 is a replay of Trump 1, where his win shocked a bunch of people and everyone’s now overcompensating because they’re freaked out. What makes it worse this time around is that there’s an obvious answer for why he won (inflation) and people are choosing to ignore it.
i basically agree but i’ll just say - not as a defense but as context - it’s being driven by what they think the preferences are of ppl who will not vote again until 2028 at the earliest. the entire party is obsessed with imagining a type of guy - and it’s a guy - who might like them if they do x
The fact that some prominent Democrats defend a Maine Senate primary candidate’s Nazi tattoo while he isn’t even leading in polls, but not defend a NYC mayor primary winner from false smears even as he’s leading general election polls says a lot.

That doesn’t seem driven by voter preference.

This is true—Bessent owns $25 million of farmland in North Dakota—and a reminder of why farm bailouts are nothing more than a giveaway to feudal lords who demand the government grossly distort agricultural economics to make their tax haven "farms" even more valuable to them.
Bessent on American farmers being hurt by tariffs: "Martha, in case you don't know it, I'm actually a soybean farmer, so I have felt this pain too."

Trump in Malaysia: "United Nation should be doing this but they don't do it. They turned off my teleprompter when I made a speech. They're good at that. The escalator wasn't working."

“law-breaking”
By proceeding with the demolition of the White House East Wing before seeking approval from federal agencies for a new ballroom, President Donald Trump forced the issue. It's a strategy known as "stake-driving."

By putting the demolition of the East Wing before the necessary approvals for his ballroom, President Donald Trump borrowed a tactic known as “stake-driving” to force an outcome.

lol "what are they even doing"? They're taking campaign contributions from those billionaires! They're hanging out with them, and agreeing with them, and being their friends!
First, billionaires passed legislation to enrich themselves.

Then they shut down the government to avoid helping working Americans afford health care—a system billionaires profit from.

Now, they’re trying to use the shutdown to gut programs millions of families depend on. trib.al/pUkHFwh
