It’s remarkable how closely Trump 2 is a replay of Trump 1, where his win shocked a bunch of people and everyone’s now overcompensating because they’re freaked out. What makes it worse this time around is that there’s an obvious answer for why he won (inflation) and people are choosing to ignore it.
i basically agree but i’ll just say - not as a defense but as context - it’s being driven by what they think the preferences are of ppl who will not vote again until 2028 at the earliest. the entire party is obsessed with imagining a type of guy - and it’s a guy - who might like them if they do x
The fact that some prominent Democrats defend a Maine Senate primary candidate’s Nazi tattoo while he isn’t even leading in polls, but not defend a NYC mayor primary winner from false smears even as he’s leading general election polls says a lot.

That doesn’t seem driven by voter preference.

This is true—Bessent owns $25 million of farmland in North Dakota—and a reminder of why farm bailouts are nothing more than a giveaway to feudal lords who demand the government grossly distort agricultural economics to make their tax haven "farms" even more valuable to them.
Bessent on American farmers being hurt by tariffs: "Martha, in case you don't know it, I'm actually a soybean farmer, so I have felt this pain too."

Trump in Malaysia: "United Nation should be doing this but they don't do it. They turned off my teleprompter when I made a speech. They're good at that. The escalator wasn't working."

im willing to just declare it a fact that trump bulldozed the white house because he was mad about the protests and the ai pants pooping wasn't satisfying enough as a tantrum

Not even bothering to pretend he's doing it legally, where before he at least declared a fake emergency to nominally satisfy the law

“law-breaking”
By proceeding with the demolition of the White House East Wing before seeking approval from federal agencies for a new ballroom, President Donald Trump forced the issue. It's a strategy known as "stake-driving."
How Trump Demolished the White House East Wing
By putting the demolition of the East Wing before the necessary approvals for his ballroom, President Donald Trump borrowed a tactic known as “stake-driving” to force an outcome.

lol "what are they even doing"? They're taking campaign contributions from those billionaires! They're hanging out with them, and agreeing with them, and being their friends!
First, billionaires passed legislation to enrich themselves.

Then they shut down the government to avoid helping working Americans afford health care—a system billionaires profit from.

Now, they’re trying to use the shutdown to gut programs millions of families depend on. trib.al/pUkHFwh

The Plot to Enslave America
The richest man on earth owns X.

The second richest man on earth is about to acquire TikTok and his family could soon own both Paramount and Warner Bros.

The third richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The fourth richest man owns The Washington Post.

See the problem here?

The most important thing here is that the president is unilaterally raising taxes on you because he got mad at his TV

A very disturbing video has emerged from today’s ICE/CBP operations in Avondale.

An officer pushes a woman to the ground, prompting bystanders to react angrily and throw what appears to be a rock at a moving unmarked vehicle.

This seems to be the new normal in Chicago.

Let’s be clear. If a completely immature & unhinged maniac is allowed to do this kind of thing out of toddler-level spite when President’s DON’T EVEN HAVE THE POWER TO UNILATERALLY LEVY TARIFFS, then there simply IS NO LEGITIMATE TRADE RELATIONSHIP between the United States & Canada or any country.

Most Americans are deeply ignorant of how national borders and travel and migration worked, historically – but they assume that it was always like now.

It wasn’t even like now when I was younger.
Bernie Sanders made some pretty ridiculous comments related to border security and how basically border security is necessary to have a nation. So was the U.S. not a nation prior to the manufactured border security panic? Because people were crossing that southern border fairly freely prior to then.
Reminder that the idea of "border security" is political and a result of moral panic. In 1965, Congress passed amendments to the Immigration and Nationality Act that put number limits on immigration and ended longstanding guest worker agreements with Mexico. This helped lead to agencies like ICE. /1

Like, if you wanted to actually change people's minds you'd be a little more subtle about this. But Bezos put a bunch of port-soaked upper crust twits and a JD Vance Group Chat Participant in charge and this is what he gets.

Also the WaPo subscription base probably has the most people enraged by this per capita of any paper. They're going to have fewer subscribers than PuddleOfMuddVEVO soon.
I can’t believe there are not one but two articles, in major papers, with this dumb framing. It is not NIMBY to express dismay when a big part of the White House is suddenly rubbled
ok I shouldn't quit but being an unemployed gamer for a little while does sound incredible though

“Working class” is a term that refers to unemployed men in their 20s. Their work is gaming and they deserve to lead our political movements.

it's important to remember the people doing this aren't "just following orders," they signed up to do this, they're excited to do it, it's what they want to be doing, and each one of them is personally culpable for the entirety of ICE's conduct
In video provided exclusively to MSNBC's The Weekend: Primetime, immigration agents are seen attempting to pull a man out a window of a Chicago home. Agents also jumped a fence into the locked backyard and manhandled people doing work. Hear from the homeowner tonight on The Weekend: Primetime.

Never in my life did I think I would see this from a mayor to police: “We would like the Aurora Police Department to play a historic role in defending the United States of America, and our city against fascism. We have a unique opportunity to do something different….”
I haven't seen people here mention this letter from the mayor of Illinois' 2nd-largest city (Aurora, 40+% Latino)

to the Aurora Police

following egregious attacks by immigration in Aurora and related protests

So here it is!
