It’s also /exactly/ the kind of thing that would come up if you were over-engineering a piece to be relatable to a certain audience and didn’t know how to.

I’m on the tail end of the millennial band and I learned the word from a woman ~5 years my senior who is the ideal audience for Le Creuset. I think it’s a piece of transient slang for kids that caught on for their moms instead.

i think this picture, from a public promo stream for a video games starring one of the most popular comic book characters of all time owned by the disney corporation, should be used on every single story about storefronts taking down lgbt content

To echo the above, we’ve had issues where the market for new homes is so lucrative here we’ve had to pay contractors for their time the way the people who build McMansions do, or it’s not worth it for them to come over. There’s just too much demand from people with more cash.

It’s also 15 calories for some reason? I couldn’t place at the moment what it was that was contributing to that.

I also just tried that Zero Sugar A&W Ice Cream Sundae and it’s got that really strange chocolate aromatic you only ever get in liquid beverages.

Whenever I try to explain this to people who call themselves designers, I get a blank stare. But if you don't understand how your product mediates behavior, you should not be doing this job.

Great essay from @frank.computer!

"A chair orders you to sit and sit in a particular way, by its design.
Your being is intended through the tool: you are intended to sit still, face forward, and behave. Artificial intelligence works in exactly the same way."
Stop saying that AI is just a tool and it only matters how it is used
I’m tired of this phrase and this simple way of thinking about tools. This blog post is a wandering train of thought on the topic of what tools are and why it matters to be even slightly more mature i...

I think part of the lure of these chatbots is the illusion that there's an easily accessible answer to every question. I'm a busy man, just tell me what the best laundry detergent is, and also whether climate change is real

Articles like this fill me with the desire to create an account like JustSaysInMice that responds to the article name with “Yes, but this is clearly a scam.”

If we could dialyze the plastic out of your blood for that cost we would have done that already.

I’ve never had a favorite bug before; now I do.

The Picasso Bug
Four photo panels showing an Sphaerocoris annulus aka the Picasso bug. A beautiful multi-colored shield-backed bug

Sphaerocoris annulus can reach a length of about 15 millimetres (0.59 in).[2][3] The basic color is green, with eleven ring-shaped spots on the scutellum. The colors and the design of these bugs represent a warning to predators. They also emit a noxious odour when disturbed. Main host plants are Gossypium species (Malvaceae), Coffea arabica (Rubiaceae), Citrus species (Rutaceae) and Vernonia amygdalina (Asteraceae).[4] This species reproduces at the beginning of the dry season (November–December). Eggs are laid on the underside of leaves, and nymphs will spend a majority of their time in flowers feeding. Once they molt into adults, however, their feeding becomes more generalized. The full development lasts 56 days.[5][6] Sphaerocoris annulus nymphs are a creamy-white color with black stripes and dots, and gain their colorful spots when they reach maturity. [2]

I apologize if you’ve already covered this elsewhere, but I’m curious what you think about going fully electric the Sonoran/Mojave desert areas. I’m thinking about getting another hybrid because but going full electric seems really dangerous with the heat. Carrying/sharing gas seems safer.

If you’re doing your work properly, you’ll do it at least 2.5 times.

The first time you build a document, project, character, sound, whatever it may be, it won’t be great. You’ll probably restart from scratch.

The second version, it’s better, but you have to re-iterate half of it.

This is normal.

As a native to the area, the “it’s a dry heat” trope really does a lot of the work. You can always sweat the heat off or take shelter and rapidly cool down unless the winds are also kicking up. You just stay hydrated and wear thin, long clothing. I’ll take 100 here over 80 in New York.

👀 Scoop: Trump and Republicans want USPS to sell off its brand new EVs and chargers.

That would mean literally **ripping up post office parking lots** to auction off assets with no private-sector value.

It’s buried in the Senate’s “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...
The Senate’s version of Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill would see the General Services Administration take possession of the nearly 7,200 new postal EVs and associated infrastructure and put the assets up for auction. The proposal is unlikely to generate much revenue for the government; there is almost no private-sector interest in the mail trucks, and used EV charging equipment — built specifically for the Postal Service and already installed in postal facilities — generally cannot be resold.

“The funds realized by auctioning the vehicles and infrastructure would be negligible. Much of infrastructure is literally buried under parking lots, and there is no market for used charging equipment,” Peter Pastre, the Postal Service’s vice president for government relations and public policy, wrote to senators this month.
