Governments are already starting to block data traffic to AI data centres, to direct energy and resources to people and industries they see as priorities ahead of AI. I don't trust Starmer and @uklabour.bsky.social to do the same. They are in the pockets of tech corporations, just like the tories

I think something similar to this happened with Brexit/ EU referendum hence the massive increase in reported incidents of racist/xenophobic abuse immediately after the referendum. Too many people felt free to express their ugliest prejudices and it’s got worse with the Farage small boats stuff.

Pretty much all of the countries at the top of the happiness index have higher taxes, which pay for better social provision, & lower wealth inequality which reduces the numbers of people left behind. The very wealthy fear both those things, so pay politicians & media to convince people they're bad.
