This same choice presented itself at the start of the decade in #ncpol with Leandro.

Silence lent credence to the radical (and incorrect) idea that NCGA leaders can ignore the parts of the constitution that they don’t like.

“There is no degree of acquiescence to Trumpism that will satisfy this administration or MAGA at large. All there is is a choice between offering a faint echo of the false reality they’re selling and creating dissonance by speaking the reality of the situation to the public.”
All In Our Heads: On Losing Our Democracy and Life Beyond Our Imaginations
Our language has to meet the moment, and we have to be relentless about dispelling the fiction MAGA is selling.

The Senate has just passed the military NDAA containing 2 anti-trans provisions: a surgery ban using federal funds (dependents too), and a sports ban on military academy spaces.

This will be the STARTING point for negotiations with the House, which has even worse provisions.

Only 20 Dems opposed.

I had a call today with someone in OR who was talking about the need for more “agitation theater” in street protests to humiliate ICE and make people laugh.

Well done Portland chicken and Portland frog.

I donated some copies of Let This Radicalize You for distribution at an ICE watch training for folks who want to join school patrols in a nearby neighborhood. Not everyone got a copy, because 120 people showed up for that training tonight. I am endlessly proud of Chicago.
A display of copies of Let This Radicalize You on a table in front of a sign that reads: "Let This Radicalize You offers stories, strategy and heart for the kind of collective care and resistance we're building together today. It helps us move from reacting to organizing. Showing how ordinary people protect each other, build power, and keep hope alive. Take a copy. Read it. Stay connected."

The Daily is committed to sanitizing Vought and ignoring what they regard as unsavory ideology. Because engaging with what is actually animating Vought would make it very hard to uphold the “normal politics” framework that defines much of mainstream political journalism.

If this ceasefire happens - and I hope it does - Western media will talk about 'peace'. This will be inaccurate. What they will mean is 'quiet', a reversion to the background level of violence that Palestinians have faced for decades. Peace can only come with the end of the occupation and apartheid.

This is a federal agent pointing a weapon at a person recording them.

ICE has become Trump’s personal military that he is using to terrorize communities and cities that don’t support him. And some say we shouldn’t call him a fascist? Open your eyes.

"I just think armed resistance to military occupation and apartheid is futile, no I don't support cutting off trade with Israel or imposing arm embargoes or doing any boycotts either" is the exact same thing as "I support Ukraine but wish Ukraine would give up all of its territory for peace".

Still, the insistence that interrupting is always impolite doesn’t leave room for the nuances of banter, cadence, or the tendency of some people to monologue until they’re interrupted because they can’t break the chain of their own thought and need the conversation partner to do so.

Are people asking for more skillful kidnappings? Is there a more civil way to strip a child from their parents?

I know the answer to that question for some, it’s yes. People would rather it be less visible, less fuss, and less overtly violent.

Whenever anyone says how much of the U.S. economy is tied to AI right now, I'm like...damn, what if a single rich person had any idea other than "try to zero out labor costs through theft."

Obviously a category that includes superstar athletes and janitors has some conceptual flaws but the traditional marxist definition of working class (relationship to the means of production) has value because the dynamic is between labor and management is the relevant one in the workplace context

Energy requirements for AI mean that the only way for the bubble not to burst would require companies to multiply their carbon footprint to an unimaginable degree. Right now, while AI is barely functional and mostly a novelty for the lazy, it requires so much energy that data centers rival cities.

The groups listed include ActBlue, Indivisible, etc.—

It's important to distinguish what they're actually doing from what they say they're doing.

The focus isn't mainly groups anyone associates with radical politics or direct action. The main focus is destroying any meaningful opposition party.

I'm really glad more people are realizing how brutal ICE has been in Chicago but it's really weird to see people talking about Rev Black getting attacked like it happened yesterday and not 3 weeks ago. Like, I'm glad people are catching up! But it's very weird.

We will know how "real" the ceasefire is only after the prisoners are exchanged on Saturday-Sunday and whether or not the first phase is immediately violated by the Israelis like last time.
