hey if you're into basketball or sneakers or both there's no time like the present to buy, read, or even (if you've already read it, and if so thank you) review my book on amazon or somewhere to let other people know about it

Mass market paperbacks were the very best book form humanity has ever invented and it’s a travesty and a crime against the book-reading public that they have disappeared.

Why would a billionaire want a functioning paper? Functioning papers cover shit like “did you know this billionaire makes his workers pee into bottles instead of taking a break” and “you pay way more tax than a guy with ten yachts”

894) Krakenbot. An enormous Octobot variant that loves to give passing ships a friendly cuddle. #SmallRobotsRemonstered #Halloween
A massive, domed robot, partially submerged. Eight long, banded arms snake in and out of the water in various directions, and a number have ensnared a large cargo ship. The robot is smiling cheerfully.

Pick a movie that could have been great. Recast ONE role to fix it.

Seabiscuit (2003) - the horse should have been played by Michael Caine. Some desperately needed gravitas for the title role, which was given to an actual horse (???).

Mine is "The Godfather- Part 3," recasting Sophia Coppola (great director, but should not have been given this role) with Jennifer Jason Leigh.

wind still gusting to 30, more rain in the forecast, wet roads with debris everywhere, looking like a third straight day off the bike and a descent into madness

sure of course but way more kids (I am guessing) wanted to be guitarists in the 80s and 90s than do now
russbengtson.bsky.social
you also have a ton of kids who grew up on rap not rock and would rather have turntables (or the digital equivalent) than a guitar
russbengtson.bsky.social
also fun when a book has multiple timeframes already so if you read IT now it’s not only ‘80s but then on top of it there’s an ‘80s view of the ‘50s

Most "classics" are boring as fuck to a modern reader in no small part because the context of the story is not understood by them and so many of the allusions and "inside jokes" known to then-contemporary readers have been lost in time and in translation

If it keeps Smoltz from talking about baseball, Joe Davis should carve a turkey for the entire game, imo.
