My friend Sascha is a professional musician and he's lost a viola bow on the way to Heathrow. Please signal boost to help him get it back.
Lost viola bow on the way from Honor Oak Station to Heathrow Terminal 2. The bow slid from its bow case somewhere along the way, possibly on the train. TFL contacted already.
It weighs 68.2 grams and has got a stamped DODD next to the frog. If any info on this, please pm me.

Actually, it's the one thing he can and should do. What's that they say about knowing a man by the company he keeps?

Fake history, but how come my ears like it so much and my feet are tapping?
Dave Brubeck never recorded Golden Brown, but...
And no, this is not ai, this was made by a real human with talent.

The whole of apple TV+ and the only thing worth watching is Slow Horses. I can't engage with Severance at all. And that so-called comedy about Hollywood isn't remotely funny.

I'm sad to see a lot of artists I know saying it's super hard to get sales. And it really is. So I wanna promote them here again.

Go check them out and buy or tip them if you can. This is the non-US shops list but I'll post other lists as well.
onidraws.bsky.social
I made a pack for non-US artists shops!
Let me know if you want to be added (with a shop link) or removed!

The right hand side of my Winter scene; this is more urban.

The scene features two animals which can stand in front. Here, the fox stands in front of the bush at the bottom.

It’s Bookshop Day so here’s a poem in celebration of all those amazing bookshops out there.
Never Judge a Bookshop by its Cover

It may call itself a bookshop, but don’t be fooled by that.
There may be books in the window, on the tables and shelves,
but really, it’s a travel agent selling all-immersive holidays,
weekend breaks, first-class tickets to other worlds,

with a low carbon footprint. It’s a pharmacy as well,
dispensing medicines, pick-me-ups, balms: if symptoms persist,
please consult your local bookseller; it’s a tailor’s, offering
a made-to-measure service to achieve the perfect fit;

and a hardware store, with a range of empowering tools
to fix you up, recharge your batteries, switch on lightbulbs.
Its walls are lined with treasure as precious as any jeweller’s,
and twice as bright. Spines shine gold, silver, sapphire, emerald;

there are diamonds amongst them. It’s a garden centre,
a place where ideas get planted and a thousand stories bloom,
and a greengrocer, selling fresh, locally-sourced produce,
as vital as your five-a-day and more readily consumed.
It’s a multiscreen cinema. Peek behind the curtain
of each jacket and you’ll find a movie waiting silently to begin.
A stationer’s supplying notepads, reams of paper,
with the words conveniently filled in

to save you both the time and bother. A wholefood store
and a fast-food joint. A cosy haven from the cold.
A friendly, family restaurant: Today’s special will revive
a flagging spirit and restore a lagging soul.

It’s a tourist information centre equipped with maps
and helpful guides to steer us on our way.
A busy square in which a whole town gathers
or just a place to hold the world at bay

for a few untroubled stolen minutes. It’s itself,
and yet it’s something larger, a universe so vast
you could spend ten thousand lifetimes there –
it may call itself a bookshop, but don’t be fooled by that.

An observation test for you - for your inner 8 year-old

“The artist has hidden 12 things in this picture. How many can you find?”

Treasure magazine, 1964
Official answers coming soon

(Even if you don’t reply, could you please ‘like’ or share this one? 🙏)
Black-and-white picture of two children playing in woodland. Also in the picture, there are 12 hidden animals including an owl, a bat and a squirrel.

Disgraceful. Everyone should know Sam Vimes' economic theory of boots.
simsarah.bsky.social
In case the actual serious reasons to be disgusted with the NYT aren't enough for you, Wirecutter posted this article and did not reference Sam Vimes ONCE:
Screenshot from NYT Wirecutter headlined "These Boots Have Lasted Me 12 Years. Unfortunately, They're $600" with a graphic of a pair of (presumably quite nice) boots.

The USAnians are quite, quite mad. Some of them.
s2hewitt.bsky.social
I now see what you were referring to specifically. People do some incredibly cruel things to children in the name of religious belief or similar. I was looking at Chinese foot binding earlier - grotesque.

So, today I totally forgot about hosting a q&a session online, but then I think nearly everyone else did too. I'm still trying to write an exam question, and I'm moderating on an absolute monster of a module that lasts the entire year and has several components. Oh, and we have a HUGE 1st yr cohort.

Thanks! Actually I might be at 81..... should have said 30 years instead.

I won't be around, which is shame because I'd love to hear what will be days about one if it turns up on Antiques Roadshow in 20 years.

Being able to write an engaging short story is a real skill. The master is, of course, Stephen King but others have also been successful.
dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social
I have heard this so many times from publishers & agents over the years: "short stories don't sell". And I've been told it again recently. But is that a reason not to write short stories? No. I love short stories and, at the moment, I need to write short stories, so I'm going to write short stories.
dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social
I have been made very aware that perhaps the least commercially sensible move an author can make in this day and age - particularly a writer unpaid by his ex-publisher - is to write a collection of short stories so of late I've been devoting my time to writing a collection of short stories.

Why are some men so crude? It's not remotely attractive, they all have wives/mothers/sisters and (probably) daughters - is this what they want then to experience?

I'm a middle-aged man and frequently end up staring into the middle distance, thinking about fuck all. My wife accuses me of eyeing up other women when I'm doing this outdoors, which I have not done. I now suspect I have resting pervert face.
