The only two communities who have elected a trans mayor are the progressive strongholds of Carterton and Hokitika

It simply should not be possible for the president to repeatedly claim that a major city is burning without a wall of live standups happening in that city clearly demonstrating that it is not

Wellington voters don’t think bicycle lanes are bad for the city. If they did our councillors would look different

Predictable and status quo friendly results across Canterbury except for Selwyn which chose to just absolutely send it

Dompost Pundit voice: this result will mean the new mayor will need to reach across the aisle, at some risk of angering his base, in order to really build the legacy that the city so dearly needs and deserves

The new Wellington City Council will include 5 Labour councillors and 4 Green councillors, plus Andrew Little, giving the two party "coalition" an increased governing majority - 10 out of 16 votes, compared to 8 under the previous council.

Gracious as ever:
Defeated Wellington mayoral candidate Ray Chung, who narrowly retained his Wharangi/Onslow-Western ward seat, said his message to voters was: “This is what you’ve chosen. Live with it.” Of Andrew Little " He’s lying about something."

Tiefenbacher, O'Brien and Osbourne in my ward is about what I expected. Will be funny to see how Tiefenbacher goes as a councillor given how arrogant his mayoralty bid was. (I'll resign if council doesn't fall in line behind me type talk)

Little as expected doing it easily in Wlg. Chung getting twice the vote of Calvert though? Our righties are a weird mob pōneke

Central issues were a reasonable council having to create a new water entity (as required by central govt's "Local Water Done Well" policy) + costs of infrastructure development driving up rates. Let's see how the nutty right manages to deal with these issues over the next 3 years ... .

Also ... remember when Whanganui wouldn't even put an "h" in its name because Maoris were bloody well asking for too much?

(Additional update: Michael Laws lives in Cromwell these days and is stinking up the Otago Regional Council.)
Whanganui votes to retain Māori wards
Whanganui has voted to retain its Māori wards in a tight contest.

Progress votes show 6663 people voted to retain a Māori ward, while 6213 voted to have it removed.

More than 1000 ballots left the Māori ward option blank.

Juile Herewini on 906 votes and Geoff Hipango on 738 votes have been returned as Māori ward councillors.

Dem Governors have more control over trade than they understand.

70% of international trade is running through the black dots. Most of the biggest sea ports, and most proximal to water.

most annoying part of having a baby is how everyone you know is all "can I see the baby" "where's the baby" "I don't see the baby" "is there actually a baby" "I don't mean to imply anything" "it's just that... You've been different lately" "ever since you fainted during that weird electrical storm"
