I’m so proud of my fellow leftists for pushing back against hatred and violence with disruptive protesting like this. This is how we do it.

It makes the news and people say
The Portland protest frog didn’t let a stream of chemical spray aimed directly at his costume’s air vent stop him.

A TikTok video of the onslaught by a federal agent is now up to at least 1.4 million likes.

It happened last week – at 10:57 p.m. on Oct. 2 – as people were peacefully protesting on the sidewalk in front of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office, said the man in the frog suit, Seth Todd, 24, of Portland.

I will never stop saying that attacks on federal employees are a racist re-enactment of Woodrow Wilson’s racist imposition of segregation in the federal workforce, which worked as designed and wrecked the Black middle class
victorerikray.bsky.social
Attacks on the federal workforce are also attacks on Black workers, who are overrepresented in the public sector.

Black unemployment is 7.5%. I'm reminded of Coates' observation that Black Americans regularly experience conditions that would be considered a crisis if whites faced them.
Black Unemployment Is Surging Again. This Time Is Different.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

I really like the phrase "Kavanaugh stop." It's not a Terry stop, because a Terry stop is short and based on reasonable suspicion of a crime. A Kavanaugh stop, by contrast, is when masked goons kidnap a person for speaking Spanish.

This is simultaneously not an especially radical theological belief and, politically speaking (especially in the U.S. context), quite a thing for Pope Leo to say. www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/266859/...
"Someone who says I'm against abortion but is in favor of the death penalty is not really pro-life," the pope explained.
"Someone who says I'm against abortion but I'm in agreement with the inhuman treatment of immigrants in the United States, I don't know if that's pro life."

Thanks to fascist voters, pudding-brained non-voters, a broken Congress, and a broken SCOTUS, this rank corruption and authoritarian control of the economy is simply how things work now in the failed state of American.

Pfizer Inc. Chief Executive Officer Albert Bourla said the company secured a three-year grace period from President Donald Trump’s promised tariffs on pharmaceuticals in a deal that would lower some of the company’s US drug prices.

Pfizer will sell some drugs at a 50% average discount on a direct-to-consumer website called TrumpRx, an initiative intended to allow Americans to pay for prescriptions at discounted rates negotiated by the government.

The deal appears to resolve two major threats facing Pfizer. It would stave off more damaging drug pricing policies while shielding the company from future tariffs imposed by the administration’s Section 232 investigation into whether the cost of medicine represents a national security threat.

BREAKING: Judge William Young finds that Noem, Rubio, DHS, and State "deliberately" sought to restrict non-citizens' First Amendment rights.

"'No law' means 'no law.' The First Amendment does not draw President Trump’s invidious distinction ...."

storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
President Irump here makes clear that, in his view, the First Amendment's
protection of freedom of speech applies to American citizens
alone, and to an unconstitutionally narrow view of citizenship at that.
This case -- perhaps the most important ever to fall within
the jurisdiction of this district court -- squarely presents the
issue whether non-citizens lawfully present here in United
States actually have the same free speech rights as the rest of us. The Court answers this Constitutional question unequivocally "yes, they do." "No law" means "no law." The First Amendment does not draw President Trump's invidious
distinction and it is not to be found in our history ....

particularly given that ten years ago the country revolted when NC passed a bathroom ban. It was a decade of bullshit from conservatives and people like Jesse Singal to get to where we are. It's not just that nobody gave a shit in 2016 which I think most didn't. But people sided WITH trans folks.
jael.bsky.social
i took a stab at editing ezra klein’s most recent comments about trans people and electoral politics to make a point often lost by the american liberal commentariat
Klein: I think, from your perspective and from my perspective, we probably don’t believe hugely different things. But a huge amount of the country, a majority of the country, believes things about [edit: the jews], about what policy should be toward [edit: the jews], about what language is acceptable to [edit: the jews], that we would see as fundamentally and morally wrong.

And what politically — not in a column or something, but politically — should our relationship with those people be? Do we win them over? Do we compromise with them?

This feels like a very salient question. The Republican Party is going to make sure this is a relentlessly salient question.
