it didn't take a lot to reach that usually high bar in this case specifically because the defendant is transgender and we live in a society which constantly tells everyone to hate transgender people.

So there is no two ways about it. Ciara Watkin was imprisoned for being transgender. That's a fact.

her crime is literally just that she's transgender and nothing else.

she has been sentenced to years is prison for being transgender in a a country which has, for about half of her entire life, been harassing and abusing transgender people daily in the press and politics.

That's the UK right now.

I'd have not consented to having sex with a few ppl had I known what a prick they were behind lies and deception.

If I or any other woman took this to the cops we would be laughed at and called a slag for not being careful who we open our legs to.

My takeaway is that we might reasonably adopt an approach where any sort of deliberate deception vitiates consent - eg a man who tells you he is 35 and single but he is actually 55 married. But we cannot have a rule that is in practice for trans people alone. Especially when disclosure is dangerous.

I can go to my local pharmacy right now (if it's still open) and get an opiate painkiller over the counter that is 100x riskier to my health than any bioidentical hormones or testosterone blocker I could take

HRT is basic healthcare that shouldn't last longer than the wait for a blood test to come back to access. You shouldn't have to wait like it's a Class A

One thing I need people to keep in mind is that it isn't just waiting times that are the problem. It's also Streeting's awful permanent bans and the way the Cass report is being used politically that caused this to happen

Although Reform did express some reservations about putting trans women in men's jails, after listening to their prisons advisor. That's not a "you gotta hand it to 'em" moment for Reform - it's a mark of how vicious Labour's hatred for the trans community is.
