A policy this expansive would certainly mean mass stripping of permanent residence status from people with ILR (including pensioners and parents of British children) on a scale far beyond anything any democracy has ever done before. There is no public support for such an extreme policy.
Via @sundersays.bsky.social the Conservatives' draft legislation - absolutely clear that it applies to (and is intended to apply to) legal permanent residents claiming state pension (on the basis of their contributions) or child benefit for British kids.

Operational independence is a core principle of British policing.

It's a safeguard (albeit imperfect) against the weaponization of the police for political purposes.

Removing that principle opens the door to #fascism.

"It took Labour more than 24 hours to finally issue a response to Lam’s remarks. But the statement made no reference to Lam’s desire to make the UK more 'culturally coherent'. One senior Labour source said: 'If we're not willing to denouncing out and out racism then we are absolutely nowhere'.”

Labour MPs asking "What is the point of Labour?" should perhaps be thinking of joining a rapidly growing party that better reflects their values - the Green Party.

Why remain loyal to a moral vacuum?
Senior Labour figures have expressed dismay at the Party's "cowardly" and "incompetent" response to Tory shadow minister Katie Lam calling for legal migrants to "go home".

"What’s the point of us saying we’re anti-racist when we fail to call out racism," said one MP.

It is the right way to go, but taking the long way round to such an obvious point has cost Labour precious time and credibility, says Guardian columnist Rafael Behr

Even just reading about him infuriates me.

Sighing, proclaiming how “difficult” it was for him.

How “difficult” it must have been for the hundreds of thousands of families that lost someone.

Narcissistic, sociopathic, egotistical fucker.

I’m scared of what the next few years could bring. I hope they are.
I think this is the best way to defeat the far-right, which now includes the Tories. I think it’s likely to be led by Polanski. He has said he will do what’s necessary to defeat fascism. It will require courage from all leaders of the Lib Dems, Greens, Plaid and SNP to work together electorally.

The irony is thick enough to spread on toast.

Leaving the EU was sold to voters as a way of “taking back control” of our borders. Yet the numbers tell a different story. Net migration has soared since Brexit,
People are just realising that we had a better grip on immigration within the EU
They gave us bar staff and builders - we gave them sunburnt pensioners and seaside property booms. It was win-win.

I think the only and very important thing missing from this headlines is that they only did it because they are Israeli Football Hooligans.

So it is patriotism, but not for the UK.
She would have deported her own grandparents. She has done well out of the chances rightly given to them. They faced persecution. She wants to pull up the draw bridge and persecute others. She is the very worst of racists.
I actually think there is a group of voters who now can’t vote for anyone. Iraq sent Labour voters to the Lib Dems. They then felt betrayed. Some came back to Labour to get the Tories out. They feel betrayed again. What a mess.

Exactly! The Brits want access to the Single Market without being members and without contributing to it. So there we go Keir Starmer put your 'make Brexit work' where the sun doesn't shine.
