Also apart from racism being bad in itself, it's just shit writing. Why bother coming up with interesting motives for your villain when it can just be "because they're Arab" (or Russian, Iranian, Irish, Chinese, Pakistani, whoever your country's enemy of the day is)

It’s always “imagine living a 6/10 man in today’s society” and never “imagine living as a conventionally unattractive women in today’s society” like actually the men still have it better and are ignorant to gendered violence and its consequences

Whenever I see men complain about the male loneliness crisis or unique emotional/psychological issues faced by men, it’s very clear that they just don’t see women as full people capable of experiencing the exact same emotions they do

i think it should be extremely easy to get a job. what do you really risk just throwing me in the mix and seeing what happens? a few dollars in wages, maybe a few more in the unemployment fund? we both know you have the money. I’M the one who doesn’t have the money! because i’m asking you for a job!

They live in a bubble and can't comprehend what life is like outside it, so they tend to be insensitive to the issues normal people face

the protagonist isn't always the hero. they are just the person the book is about. sometimes authors write books about people who are bad and it does not mean that the author is bad

A character being relatable is about the skill of the writer not the nature of the character and writers who can't make an unusual or difficult character relatable should probably quit publishing and fucking practice for a while.

I find it kinda funny how detectives in German are Kriminalpolizei. Like you're telling me the rest of the cops aren't criminals?? Somehow I find that a bit hard to believe

I know there's a long history of drag being interconnected with trans women, but I've personally never enjoyed it and it really gets under my skin when (almost universally cis) people assume I should love it.

Like does the average reader really just have a complete lack of empathy for anyone different from them? I guess I shouldn't be that surprised, but damn, that's bleak

I never understood the deal with "relatability". Like if a character has relatable personality/goals/backstory/etc their ethnicity or whatever doesn't make any difference. Hell, even though I'm a trans lesbian I can relate to a cishet male protag if they're written well enough

*gets on my soap box* this idea that cis and trans women (in general) and especially cis and trans lesbians don’t have massive amounts of overlapping experiences and anxieties is a function of our oppression as women—as queer women—and is vital to resist

Trans women often find themselves feeling predatory for interest in cis women, but from a lot of recent conversations with cis women I learned that they often feel predatory for their interest in trans women as well

it didn't take a lot to reach that usually high bar in this case specifically because the defendant is transgender and we live in a society which constantly tells everyone to hate transgender people.

So there is no two ways about it. Ciara Watkin was imprisoned for being transgender. That's a fact.
