I think that elected state representatives should be able to observe federal law enforcement activities without being menaced by masked goons.
State rep. Hoan Huynh shared video of agents surrounding his vehicle/stopping him + staffers shortly after he said one agent pointed a gun inside his vehicle at him while another threatened to break a window. They were following feds in Albany Park after four people were reportedly taken.

Story tk.

The U.S. military has killed at least 32 people in seven strikes off the coast of Venezuela without telling Congress or the American people who was killed, or on what evidence.

would love to know how far up the chain this went before the DOD said it was safe to fire live munitions over the freeway, apparently deviating from standard procedures to do it

ICE totally shot a US Marshal while smashing out a window with their service weapon. And I dunno but I doubt that is SOP for window smashing. Maybe these guys need more than an afternoon of training.

I mostly think it's a sign that Trump has collapsed into habit. He's not pursuing presidential ambitions, he's pursuing the ambitions of a small-time real estate guy who happens to be sitting in the Oval Office all day
People have said the ballroom is a sign that he won't leave, but imo it is the opposite a screwed-up way way to quickly secure a legacy in the only way he can process.

this is the moderate position
I am a single issue voter and that issue is I want the Republican Party in federal prison.
That rage you feel, as you watch the White House get leveled? That's how we beat Trump. Harness that, refine it, find ways to get other people equally enraged. Get them so mad they can't see straight. None of this kumbaya BS. White-hot, unreasoning anger, that demands the people who did this PAY.

*Trump destroys the legal and constitutional heritage of the US*

Dems: "We can't make noise about this, it's not concrete enough for voters"

*Trump destroys the literal, physical White House*

Honestly, I think the 2024 election was basically viewed as a referendum on public morality by elites and therefore nobody is ever going to apologize for anything ever again no matter how heinous because the American people have spoken.
yeah it is not “liberal censoriousness” to think that you shouldn’t nominate the guy without the sense to not get a nazi tattoo and then not remove it

Yeah, to put things in perspective, 10 years ago it seemed we were well into the End of History: nuclear deal with Iran, Republicans in the US going to the left after two defeats against Obama, and far-right parties having little sway in Europe. Trends can change and fast.

Matty floating abolishing birthright citizenship as the compromise position should give you a sense of what the key groupchats and intellectual circles are contemplating, and it's not exactly positive! And the far right is very likely to the UK, France, Germany, and Italy within the next decade.
Yglesias is now calling for repealing the 14th amendment, if you want a sense of the scale of retreat being contemplated, and why I don't think it's a tenable strategy.
