Statutory or not, it still is not the law: A statutory code of practice is not a law itself, but it is a form of guidance issued by a statutory body.

We've written to @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social to request the government to revoke the 2011 services code and make our updated version statutory. It accurately reflects the law and updated guidance is urgently needed: www.equalityhumanrights.com/media-centre...

Sonia Sodha:
Why do I keep abusing my position as a journalist to publish dishonest anti-trans propaganda? Because I know trans people are banned from responding.

I was in a meeting yesterday warning that if we lose the ECHR we are Royally Fucked. I think people think it could never happen - but remember everyone said that about Brexit. Let’s not be as stupid as then.

Woah! So Labour's position really is, 'telling us off for breaching human rights undermines the case for human rights'? Proper Trumpian stuff from Labour's answer to Suella Braverman.
I hoped against hope that at least the ongoing campaign against the trans community would be toned down or moderated and would hopefully quietly dissipate but sadly it’s continued unabated.

I think it would have surprised even the most pessimistic if you'd told people during the 2024 campaign that a year into Government Starmer's team would be negatively briefing against the ECHR and Council of Europe for daring to question their assault on trans rights

Trans people have been warning about these people for *years*

This is a huge story but massively under the radar in the UK.

A US Christian legal org called the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is working to roll back abortion rights here using the same playbook it used in the US: briefing politicians, watching, waiting.

We have jointly applied to the Council of Europe formally to seek re-opening of enforcement of the case of Goodwin v UK under rule 9 of the Rules for the supervision of the execution of judgments and of the terms of friendly settlements, in the European Court of Human Rights. T

Looking back at this and seeing a Labour government choosing option 3 in the most petulant manner possible…

…because this Labour government is determined to be worse than Thatcher for LGBTQIA+ people.

He’s flagging that 🇬🇧 is in breach of it’s obligations with the result being:

1. They change the approach

2. They lose when this gets to the ECHR

3. The 🇬🇧 leaves the international human rights body we imposed on Europe to stop the rise of fascism happening again.

Trans people are not a threat to cis women or anyone or taking away anyone’s human rights.

Mahmoud’s actions reveal that transphobes would rather take away EVERYONE’S human rights, including those of cis women (whose rights to bodily autonomy will be next) than allow basic rights for trans people.
goodlawproject.org
If Labour doesn't intend to adhere to its human rights obligations anyway, there's little point in us being signatories to the ECHR. Better, more honest, for Mahmood to join Reform in campaigning to leave it.

Done, I've included Paragraph 472 in Scottish Parliament Stage One Report on GRA Reform from 2022 and there having been no concrete examples of the lobbied threats & harms transgender person's are alleged to present give the EA 2010 is 15yrs trouble free old.

People had to complain to get Polanski an interview.

Weird nobody has to beg the BBC to give Farage airtime.

I mean, it's not actually weird. We all know what it is and why it happens.
I grew up in the 1970s and 80s and I grew up fearful and ashamed and we’ve been dragged back to those times.

people are acting like this is a study talking about all trans people but it’s just about nonbinary people which makes sense that this is lower, 9 out of 10 nonbinary people i’ve ever met have now transitioned lol

The Supreme Court decision is “clear”.

A clear breach of trans people’s human rights:

Mahmoud originally said that the transphobic “guidance” from the EHRC should “not be challenged”, now she is saying it is “beyond reproach” even though it breaches basic human rights deliberately and unnecessarily.

She should come clean, she is just a bigot who wants to harm trans people.

This has gone down *badly* with some in govt, amid push to reform the ECHR from the inside.
Shabana Mahmood especially is said to take a "dim view" of arguments made and her allies say issue of trans rights after the Supreme Court's judgement is "beyond reproach".
Govt source says "it doesn't help sustain public confidence in the European Convention when the Council is seen to intervene in domestic politics and national security".

A powerful letter to UK ministers from the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe, warning strongly about curtailing human rights for trans people in a bogus 'zero-sum game'.

It's clear the Commissioner is deeply worried that ministers are already on this path.

Thank you. The trans community has faced an ongoing orchestrated campaign by sections of the media and political class against their rights over the past decade and the SC judgement was the culmination of that and it is now being used to marginalise and exclude them from society.
