I'm Meredith or MSJ! In my 20s, AF vet, at undergrad college 5/5 (long story), consuming knowledge about nature and disasters since 2004.

My research focus is TC RI and storm surge.

Five years ago yesterday, the Cameron Peak fire became the largest wildfire in Colorado state history.

This animation from August to November 2020 shows the full growth of the fire throughout those months, as well as the nearby East Troublesome and Mullen fires.

Unfortunately, on federal lands this year we are missing another prescribed fire window because of the government shutdown. We are frittering away opportunity every time we put up additional roadblocks to the use of prescribed fire.

So far this Atlantic hurricane season, the National Hurricane Center's track forecast errors have been really close to average... but the intensity errors have been decidedly larger.
