They Live is a fantastic film but every time I introduce it to a Gen Z friend I'm reminded that the plot boils down to, "two hobos carry out a series of workplace mass shootings because they believe half the population are aliens wearing human skin"
I was reading Ship of Magic recently, that has two villains. One is a laugh-riot of evil impulses accidentally doing good.
The other is so unbearable that I can’t continue because Fucking Kyle will still be there, screaming misogyny at all the kids and tormenting them all if I turn the page.
Anime hot take: Negima! deserves a new complete anime adaptation. It’s an excellent battle shounen and inexplicably is one of the best showcases of female heroes not being sidelined.
If the old anime’s OP makes that sound ludicrous, well, it needs a new anime for a reason.
Also: one of my favorite fucked up moons in anime is from Grimgar: Of Fantasy and Ash, where our isekai’d group of teenagers have lost all memories but they do know one thing: the scarlet red moon of this world is *wrong*.
(They are also used as expendable migrant labor and given no rights.)
